Selwyn studied Euric, "Why come to me?"

"You are the hand of the queen, milord. The man who leads the armies of the kingdom, though I doubt I need to tell you what your job entails. No, there is another reason." He cleared his throat. "Using the Targaryen forces may seem an easier notion, but frankly I do not trust Aegon, nor any of Rhaeny's other dubious siblings. Furthermore, I wish to do this deed for all of the kingdom, not just the Targaryens. Should I succeed men from every land will be able to say "I was there when we avenged Lord Tarly's death". It would seem arrogant if I let this glory fall only to those men Saella brought with her and deny everyone else the justice."

Selwyn lips quirked, and he looked around, "Master Euric, look around, do you see any one else here asking to avenge their brother Tarly? Since you are a foreigner you may think of us as one land and people, but you can rest assured that we do not. Only the Far Reach care that Tarly is dead. And you can not use those men, because they are out of control."

"So the men of Westeros are going to stand by whilst lords of their realms are being butchered by men who should never have passed the Wall? I thought these Wildlings were barbarians, the bane of the north and men who do not follow the rules of the kingdom?" He tempered himself and thought for a moment. "Lord Selwyn, there have been a few instances in which Rhaenys has acted... in an un-clever manner. I only wish to represent her, and you, by showing that the two of you will not stand by whilst Rhaenys' supporting lords are murdered."

Selwyn studied the foreigner with his dark eye, "There is very little real evidence that the Wildlings are involved. Just some wild claims by the Far Reach men, and in the current situation they are not to be trusted. A couple of stone arrow heads are not enough to make me turn on men who weeks ago helped defeat the others."

"The same men who protected Ariel Targaryen when the queen instructed for her to be brought to her?" Euric asked calmly. "And even if it is not enough, is no one investigating? Certainly Rhaenys should, if I may be free to say so."

Selwyn looked up and sighed, "Yes, they are the same men which is why it would be so easy to frame them." He ran a finger over the red tissue that lies where his eye was, "For the time being Euric you will be Master of Laws. I will command 200 northmen to follow you. Find the Wildlings and question them. Do nothing rash, and I remind you that they were brothers in arms only weeks ago."

Euric was astonished and tried his best not to show it. "Of.. course, milord." He saluted and left the tent.

Euric arrived after the little meeting with Rask to tell lord Selwyn what had occurred.

Selwyn listened and frowned, "What did you decide?"

"In my mind he's guilty but there is still no damning evidence. The reach knights decided they'd stay there for a while but I doubt Rask came alone." He sighed. "I'll have my friend Corwyn try to find out anything else but it seems like they will go unpunished."

Selwyn shook his head, "No one goes unpunished." He rubbed at the horrible scars on his face. "You look unhappy with your promotion." His lip quirked, "It is always easier swinging the sword then making judgments."

Selwyn assured her, "It is good to announce these things. It closes windows for opportunistic lords." Selwyn thought a moment, "Thatcher has gone to infiltrate his father's organization." That startled her but she was relieved too. "He has? I heard he'd betrayed us, and after I gave him his life. I was very angry," Rhaenys admitted. "At least there is some good news in all this. You're right about Liliyana though. Have the announcement made, please. I mean to come back and then we can be wed but, if I don't you must marry my twin in my place. For the good of the realm."

"Not unhappy but.... I had to decide between what I thought was right and what was 'right'. Though the reachmen perhaps acted un-justly I can't say I'll be sad if they win." He thought long for a moment. "I thank you for the position however; and for the men you lent me."

Selwyn nodded, "I have no concerns about marrying her. Do not mention Thatcher's plan even in your sleep." He licked his lip, and the asked, "Why did you scare the man's face? That is no part of our laws."
