Rhaneys looked like she'd just bitten a lemon.
"I would not tell him that," she said. "But nor can I promise him banishment and then execute him. It is not honourable. Besides, I still think we will have to negotiate with him at a disadvantage, which nullifies us offering him his life. It would be better to pretend we were going to offer something else, then fight him when he's off guard and then we can capture and kill him. Unless you have a better idea?"

Selwyn shook his head, "Not until we know what we are against. Knowing Thacher I know that he has probably thought this through better and further then I have."

"Damn. You realise that I must go myself, Selwyn? The letter demands it. They will likely kill Kyma out of hand if I refuse."

Selwyn nodded, "I understand. You should take all of you guard. And do not commit too far. We will send Tallbody ahead to scout out their forces locations."

Rhaenys was startled. She eyed him with suspicion. Selwyn had protested a number of her other decisions, why did he not do so now?
"You do not object?"

"This a matter of family and honor." Selwyn replied, "How could I respect you at all if you would not try to save your sister."

"True enough, but I thought you were going to repeat everything you said about a queen's duty to keep herself safe, like you did before."

Selwyn tilted his head, "You should be safe, but in battle there are many as good, or almost as good with a blade as you. In this case you are the only one able to save your sister." His lip quirked, "I am not against you risking your life, but only you foolishly risking your life."

She was relieved to be spared another argument with him,
"Thank you, Selwyn. I'm sorry to say it but our wedding will have to wait a while. I can't marry you while Kyma's life hangs in the balance. You can't come to Harrenhall, according to that letter. I'll miss your counsel but at least I will leave the army in the best possible hands. You understand, I hope?"

Selwyn nodded, "You must name an heir before you leave."

She gave him a surprised look.
"My sister, Liliyana, is next in line. That much is obvious, I believe."

Selwyn assured her, "It is good to announce these things. It closes windows for opportunistic lords." Selwyn thought a moment, "Thatcher has gone to infiltrate his father's organization."

Selwyn stared at the kneeling man, and scratched his mass of scars.

"Lord Selwyn." Euric said, rising. "I am here because of the recent assassination of Lord Tarly and his brother at the hand of the Wildlings. As far as I know no one is launching an expedition to find the Wildlings and bring justice to them, so I have come to you to ask if I may lead such a force and avenge the gruesome murder that has happened."
