Selwyn looked up and his eye bored into the tent's walls, "If confronted he will deny it or blame it on his man." His gaze moved back and forth like he was tracking something. Then he shook his head, "I hate politics. I will ask Pristy about it later." Then he looked back to Talyn, "Do you have any thoughts?"

"My thoughts were much the same. Either it is Lannister in which case he will blame his man if we inquire, or it could even BE his man, looking to start strife between the Queen and Lannister, or it could be that Lannister is testing my loyalty, as I am a Thatcher after all. But it bears careful watching."

Selwyn nodded, "Anything else?"

"Lord Lannister did confirm the scouting report that Lords Frey and Reed occupied Moat Cailin. He said they were preparing to defend against the Others returning from the North in the event we failed, rather than an attack from the south, which I found interesting, but not unlikely. That is all milord. I'll go with your leave?"

Selwyn nodded and followed Thatcher out of his tent.

Rhaenys arrived demanding to see Selwyn. It was clear that she was very agitated,

Selwyn was talking with Ser "Long" Jess Dunn when she arrived. Turning to look at her he waved his man off. Jess backed away easily. Selwyn spoke, "What is wrong?"

Rhaenys fought back threatening tears, determiend to face Selwyn as calmly as she believed a queen should.
"I've learned what happened to Kyma," she said. "Your man Thatcher brought a note. He agreed to hide Kyma within his own ranks, at her own request, but she was kidnapped while Borcas and Jeyne questioned Thatcher and his men, Her captor named himself the Straw Man and has demanded I fulfil certain conditions before he will release her."
She stopped and grimaced.
"Of course, it's probably a trap, but I must at least try to save my sister. Here's the letter.
Rhaenys pulled out the letter from amid her clothing and showed it to Selwyn.

Selwyn took the letter and slowly read it. As he finished he looked back up to her his mind still considering the missive. "We must tread carefully." He paused for a second, "What ransom would you pay for her?"

She didn't know the answer to that. She coudln't throw away everything they were working for but Kyma was her sister.
"I can't answer that until I know what they'll ask for,"

Selwyn breathed in deeply, "You should start considering it. If you have no line in mind when you met him, his demands may seem acceptable when they are not."

Rhaenys looked deeply unhappy.
"Well, I know that I don't have much money to spare because we're at war and I will not give up the kingdom. I do not know what he is likely to ask that I could give, Selwyn. It goes against the grain to give him anything at all, yet I see that I may have to. What would you offer, in my place?"

"Banishment as opposed to execution." Selwyn replied.

She frowned and shook her head.
"They won't take that unless we have the upper hand. We will need to put ourselves in such a position first, and they may make demands of us before then. As to banishment, well, I could never trust any man who kidnapped my sister. I would have to execute them, surely?"

Selwyn nodded, "Surely the man who took her will not accept any deal that ends with his own execution. That ultimatum will guarantee the death of Kyma."
