She is allowed entrance. Maekar is at the window, appreciating the view Casterly Rock offered of the sea.
He turned and saw his sister. "Joanna," he said neutrally, "have a seat. Wine?"

She shook her head and sat in an empty chair.
"Thank you, Maekar, but no. I had a glass of lemonwater before I came here and I've no desire to consume anything else at present. I'm a martyr to a weak bladder at present. You will understand, I'm sure?"

Maekar nodded, "I do, Anni was much the same during her pregnancies." He poured himself a glass of wine and sat down in a seat beside Joanna.

"How have you been, brother?" Joanna asked. "We have not talked in a very long time, it seems."

Maekar nodded. "That is true. I regret that I did not offer my congratulations on your wedding at the feast, illness kept me from staying long, but I offer them to you now."

"That's kind of you," she said. "I fear that the rest of our siblings are not so generous, though they pretend to be. How are you getting on as Master of Laws? Does the position please you?"

"The position pleases me. I have found being at court to be difficult, at times. Daemon and I are different people, and I believe he expects me to be more like himself and Daeron," he gave a half shrug.

"I would have thought Daemon gave you the role because you are not like him, or Daeron," Joanna said. "After all, a king who likes to think of his own pleasures needs councillors who can sacrifice pleasure to duty, as I believe you can."

Maekar inclined his head in thanks at the compliment.
"How are you finding your own new position? I understand that Queen Morgan is having trouble accepting the arrangement."

"Yes. Daemon's hopes in that respect have yet to yield fruit," Joanna sighed. "I can't say I blame Morgan. Doubtless I'd feel the same in her position. Otherwise, it feels the same as it did before, apart from not having to sneak about with Daemon. It's just a title, after all."

Maekar nodded. "She will come to terms with it, she has no other choice. Daemon has made his decision and the act is done. But until then, be wary of her."

Joanna almost laughed since she had long been wary of Morgan, but she said instead "Why do you say that?"

"I do not know the queen, but Hightower is a proud family, and they will not take the scorn easily. Perhaps there is nothing to fear from the queen, but it may be that there is."

"Perhaps. I rather thought I might have something to fear from other quarters, too," Joanna said.

Maekar raised an eyebrow, "undoubtedly, there will be some who think your marriage should not be tolerated, but I assume you are speaking of someone specific?"
