"When I can, I will certainly do so." the young lord of Driftmark said solemnly.
He leaned forward to re-fill his goblet.
"The queen has given me certain orders though and I am unable to leave for the moment. It appears she is quite concerned by events in the Vale. Do you know anything of what might be transpiring there?"

"Lord Brynden did ignore her grace's summons," Selwyn said, his face impassive. "I do not think anything is transpiring, and I cannot cast blame on him for not wishing to leave the Vale. It is right beautiful during the summer," he added.

A look of surprise came over Lord Aurane's face.
"Indeed? The Vale's beauty in the summer seems a somewhat flimsy excuse to ignore the Queen's summons. In the past, great lords have been put to death for ignoring royal decrees", he said knowingly.
"There must be more to Lord Brynden's refusal than that."

"I agree, Lord Aurane, but Lord Brynden's confidences are not mine to divulge, respectfully," he said, bowing his head slightly. "It seems as though the Queen is going to the Vale, surely all will be resolved if Selwyn and his uncle are able to speak."

"I hope so." said Lord Aurane with sincerity.
"I am favorably disposed to a marriage between your brother and my sister, but naturally I shall need to await the outcome of the talks between the Queen and Lord Brynden."
He took a small sip of his wine.
"House Velaryon has been loyal to the Targaryens, ever since we knelt at Goldengrove and then again at Saella's Fall." He twirled the stem of his goblet between his fingers and mused softly.
"And at times even before then."
He looked Ser Selwyn squarely in the eye.
"As long as House Targaryen keeps faith with us, we shall keep faith with them. It would not do being seen to be allying with the Queen's enemies."
He paused and stared into space as if struggling to arrive at a decision.
"If all of House Royce demonstrates their loyalty to the Queen to the Queen's satisfaction, then I shall be happy to consent to the marriage between Daenarys and Lord Armand."

Selwyn nodded. "Very well my lord, I will leave you to your business, I am sure reclaiming a castle is time-consuming."
He bowed to the men present, before turning to leave the solar. He made his way to the harbor, and began to seek to buy passage to Gulltown.

Lord Aurane looked after the departing Ser Selwyn with some misgiving.
The man's abrupt end to the conversation after Aurane's declaration of loyalty to the Targaryens was somewhat troubling. However he let the man go. He had no good reason not to and any misgivings he may have had may well have been misplaced.
Time would tell.

Upon learning of the identity of the party that has arrived in the harbor, Lord Aurane Velaryon himself came down to the harbor with fifty of his men. The young lord was dressed in his best finery, his golden hair which reached to just above his shoulders was carefully combed, his face shaven. One of his men carried the banner of House Velaryon a white sea-horse on a sea-green field, while another carried a red and black Targaryen banner. As the Queen and her party came ashore, Lord Aurane and his entourage knelt. "Your Grace. he said formally. "Welcome to Driftmark." Lord Aurane Velaryon

Rhaenys smiled at Lord Velaryon.
"Thank you, my lord. I look forward to visiting your castle. How does your campaign progress?"

A slight look of frustration came over Lord Aurane's features.
"Unfortunately it has stalled a little at the moment, due to a slight lack of resources.
"Certain measures for the next stage have been taken already, but your further aid and support would certainly be gratefully received.
"Please....let us repair to my Great Hall. We may talk further in comfort and where I can be formally introduced to your companions."

"As you will then."
Rhaenys slipped her arm through that of her distant cousin.
"I am curious to see the place that has been the cause of so much activity and thought between yourself and Aegon," she said.
