A man asks them to enter the keep. A gate is cracked open.

Ser Maekar refuses to enter. He sends one of his knights forward to ask that the keep's commander, or his representative, meet him where he and his knights wait, in full view of both the keep's defenders and the landed army.

The gate shuts.

Ser Maekar unrolls a scroll and bellows as loudly as he could, so that those on the battlements can hear him clearly.
"In the name of Queen Rhaenys of Westeros, we demand the surrender of this castle to the rightful lord Aurane Velaryon and the Queen's forces present here."
He indicated the waiting army behind him so there would be no mistake as to what he meant by 'Queen's forces'.
"Failure to do will see the garrison of this stronghold and commander of this castle declared as traitors to the Crown, with the resultant penalties carried out. You have three hours to comply with this directive. Doing so will see the entire garrison spared."

Aegon's men had been scouring the island ever since they had secured it, for materials to build ladders and other rudimentary seige equipment such as battering rams. When these were complete, he made his final preparations to assault the castle.

Aegon's men report that anything capable to be used for such a purpose had already been removed or destroyed. There are many pits full of burnt and smoking ruins.

On learning of this, Aegon orders one of the galleys that brought the men to shore to be broken up and the wood and metal used to construct assault weapons.

As soon as his army's preparations are complete and his men have suitably equipped with scaling ladders and other sundry assault weapons, Aegon orders an assault against the castle with all of his men.

At the fall of the castle, Prince Aegon orders the body of the slain Tydwell hung from the battlements in chains. A sign around his neck denounces him as a false lord.
Aurane Velaryon takes his seat in the Great Hall as Lord of Driftmark. Aegon sits in judgment beside him.
Aegon's squire the 18 year old Valarr Velaryon is knighted by his brother as his first act.
After this - in groups of four - the captives are hauled in front of them and interrogated. A secretary jots down their responses. They are then deposited in the castle dungeons until a decision is made about their fate.

Selwyn Stone had tended to his wounds after the battle; only one slash across his upper arm, where the chainmail had been broken by a particularly strong bastard sword. The wound was not deep, but bled extensively, thoroughly staining his surcoat.
He made his way to Lord Velaryon's solar a few days after the battle, seeking an audience with the Lord of the Driftmark.

The young Lord of Driftmark is in high spirits after his triumphant re-taking of Driftmark and readily grants Ser Selwyn an audience. When Selwyn enters, Lord Aurane gestures at a bottle of Lyseni red wine and motions him to help himself.
"Ser Selwyn...greetings. What can I do for you?"

Selwyn declines the offer of wine with a polite smile. "Congratulations on your victory, my lord," he said. "I come at the behest of my younger brother. Since Driftmark was the last holdout of rebellion, the crownlands now seem to be at peace, and he wished for me to ask you again about arranging a marriage between he and your sister."

"I have two sisters." the young lord said. "Daenarys is the elder at sixteen and Rhaella is the younger at fourteen. If I was to agree to a marriage, would your brother have any preference, as to which sister?"

"Lady Daenaerys, I would imagine, since he is three and twenty already," Selwyn replied. He scratched his arm, which was beginning to itch under his bandages. "He asked me, when you feel secure enough to leave Driftmark, to invite you and your family to Duskendale."
