"You sound like a man with plans for the next decade or two, my lord. So where are these cultists hiding? We haven't seen much of them around here, not since the time they attacked us and we managed to survive their attack."
Connor took a little wine to drink, but found that he did not like the taste at all, but he kept apparences. He took another piece of meat before he spoke.
"So were you close with your family before they were killed, my lord?"

"I hope to have the castle built in two years if it can be managed. That is one thing I have some control over. However, the cultists are another matter. I do not believe they will take more than a few years to eradicate. We will have to kill them to a man, no easy task."
Oswell paused at the mention of his family. "I was very close to me family, and I remember when and where each of them fell." Oswell continued as he tore off another strip of meat. "My uncle Yohn Tully fell while riding back to bring word of the Others attack. I watched from the walls as he was cut down within bow range. The fighitng atop the wall was fierce. We held for a time but the ranks of wights were endless. Whe nwe fell back to the main keep we knew it was onl a matter of time before they over ran us, so we made a break for the River Gate. My father and brother were in the boats when the Others broke through our lines. Renly and Vayon tried to give us time to escape but they got to my mother anyways, the three of us escaped with only a few hundred troops."
Oswell smiled sadly, "I apologize for going on about thins you do not care to hear. And here I have not answered your question. I was close to my family, very close. The only one I did not know well was m uncle Yohn. He was...distant."

Connor raised an eye-brow when Oswell hoped to build rebuild Riverrun in two years. If he wanted that done, he had to work the men really hard and even then that might not be enough. The little he had learned about building, the work would take at least five years in his mind, if they wanted Riverrun to stand this time.
"I am sorry that you had to see your family go down like that, my lord. My mother died last year from fever, but at least she went peacefully. I never met my father, but what I hear about him he was a good man."

"I am sorry to hear that Connor. It is never an easy thing to watch ones mother die, no matter how it comes about. Who was your father, if I may ask. Perhaps I knew him I made it my business to go among the smallfolk from time to time."

Connor sat quiet for a while, chewing on a large piece of meat. He also took a large sip of wine, hoping the taste of it would settle some of the feeling in his stomach.
"His name was Renly, my lord. Renly Tully, your uncle." Connor said and drew his fingers through his hair out of nervousness.

Oswell stopped chewing for a moment and looked up at him. "Renly Tully...you are sure of this? I do not doubt your word...no I believe you." The feeling of familiarity finally made sense. "You have his look Connor. There was something about you that made me think of him when I saw you, but I dismissed it simply as old memories best left forgot. He was a good man, as you say, and brave." Oswell laughed, "He would have gotten a good laugh about hearing you had named yourself the master of Riverrun, yes indeed."

"That is what my mother told me, and older men from my village said I looked like him too but I can't say for sure, my lord. That was also one of the reasons I came to Riverrun, I wanted to have a Tully live here so the ground did not forget who had cared for it all this time."

Oswell smiled, "The Tully blood must run strong in you. Riverrun has always had a Tully in it, it was no less true when you were its inhabitant. you defended it with your life against those that would take it from you. In that you are truly a Tully of Riverrun and you would have made your father proud. I am proud of you, Connor. Few would have entered a place that held so much death and destruction, but your blood led you to it; whether you know it or not."
Oswell thought for a moment, "It is decided, you will have a place in Riverrun. No because you are family, but because of your actions."

Connor bowed his head respectfully.
"Thank you, my lord. I wanted to stay here after it was rebuilt, since I feel I belong here, maybe that has to do with my blood or maybe it's just a feeling that Riverrun brings to the heart of us Riverlanders."
He paused for a second.
"But what will you tell the other nobles when they asked why you put a baseborn in a position at your castle, what ever it may be."

"I will tell them that you are a man of merit and honor. If they scoff at your appointment, it is because they are merely threatened by you. Such is the way of some men, but it is not my way. I owe my life to base born men and nobles alike, our campaign in the North showed me the worth of all men, not just nobles. Speak with James Rivers, he is a knight with my household...with me that is, and he has served me well."
Oswell leaned in close, "He has even met and talked with our Queen Rhaenys Targaryen. I trust him with my life, as I will you if you prove yourself."

"That is most kind, my lord. I am sorry if I don't hold nobles high and mighty that is expected of someone of my standing, but during the Winter I was really shown how the nobles treated my kind."
He nodded, and offered a smile which showed the likeness of his father.
"I will speak to this James, my lord. He seems to have been through a lot of things, maybe he can teach me a thing or two about nobles as he has been around a few more than I have."

"These lords you speak of have no honor. They pray on the weak ad show their true colors only when there is no one to bring them to justice. You have no reason to fear them, but from what you tell me I gather you never did."
Oswell set his plate down, finally full from the venison. "James will teach you many things, he is a versatile man with much knowledge. He knows how bastards are treated, and he knows how to counter the insults and harsh treatment."

"I wouldn't say that the time here has been easy, but we managed to keep them out at least."
He took one last bite of meat, before he rose.
"If there is nothing else, I think it's time for me to return to the men, my lord."

Oswell looked up at him, "Yes of course. Please, take the rest of that meat. It will only be wasted here."

"Thank you, my lord. The men will appriciate it." Connor said with a bow and took the plate with the meat and left the tent.
