Despite his weariness and surprise at the self-proclaimed master Oswell smiles. "Thank you ser. I trust you have kept Riverrun in good order in my absence," Oswell laughs. "It seems you are working just as hard as the rest of the men here. What is your name son?"

Connor raised his eyebrow, apperently the man had some of the noble traits after all as he hadn't heard his own man introduce him a few seconds earlier.
"Connor Rivers, my lord."

"Well Connor Rivers, come and walk with me. Tell me how you came to hold Riverrun. I am sad to say when I last saw the walls they were much as they are now, only then they were strewn with bodies of men and Others alike...but mostly men. It must have been a hard winter to drive you and your people into such an ill-omened place."

"The winter was hard on the village where I grew up, my lord. My mother and I decided that the walls of Riverrun were better shelter than the barely standing houses of the village, so we came here and took hold of the place." Connor didn't mention the fact about him possessing Tully-blood which had been a part of the reason as well. He knew that Simon knew of his father, but he wanted to get a feel about his "cousin" first.

Oswell nodded and smiled sadly. "Be glad all you had to deal with was a long and cold winter. It sounds a pleasant experience compared to what we were pitted against in the North. Demons out of nightmares," Oswell whispers shaking his head.
"But it is done with now, and we are on to other tasks." He looks up at the walls that are being torn down. "It will be a long and tiring task, but Riverrun will be as fine as she has always been. What will you dod when we are finished, not that that will likely be soon. I need every loyal man I can find in these troubled time."

Connor shrugged.
"I don't know, my lord. I guess go back to what I did before, taking care of those I've grown up with. There is not much in store for a lowly born bastard like myself."

"Don't sell yourself short Master Connor. Bastards can do just as much good as a noble-born man. In fact, one of my most faithful servants, and best friends, is base born. It's not your name that makes you a great man, it's your heart. Never forget that. If you choose to stay here when we are done our work I do not think it will be hard to find a place for you, and I will see that your friens and family are taken care of. They are the smallfolk of my land after all." Oswell smiles and continues to walk. He felt a small sense of recognition in Connor's face, a familiarity he could not place.

"You are most kind, my lord. Not much of your fellow noble lords would say that to someone like me. I would gladly accept to stay at Riverrun, the castle holds a special place in my heart after all."

"You will find, Master Connor, that I am not like most lords. I can judge the worth of a man and looks past his name to focus on his deeds. Others will look past yoiur deeds and look to your name. I will admit, I was like that in my youth, but the world is changing. Others will find themselves washed away if they do not adapt to it. It was not only nobles and their sons that fought and died in the cold North. But we work for better times, so that our children might know peace."

Connor just nodded, unsure how to respond.

"Well enough of that serious talk, there has been enough of it lately and I grow tired of it. Would you like to join me for lunch? I was fortunate enough to bring down a buck on our way here, from the smell of it I think must be near to done. You have worked hard, join us for a break."
Oswell starts walking for his own fire where the venison is cooking outside his pavilion.

"If you call for a break for the men as well, my lord, I will gladly join you for lunch. I can not with good conciense take a break while my friends continue to work hard."

"Your men are taking their break even now. Lord Frey's men and my own are taking their places. You and your vilagers have worked hard enoug hfor now, I am very grateful."
Oswell goes about slicing off pieces of meat from the roasting carcass. "Here, have some of this." Oswell hands him a plate of meat before sitting down to his own.

Connor took a piece of meat from the plate and put it in his mouth. It tasted wonderful, so much better than the rabbits and other small game they had lived on for the last few months.
"Thank you, my lord. It tastes heavenly. So what are your plans in the near future?"

Oswell ate some of his own, savoring the flavor. "Well you see it before you. For the most part I will be rebuilding Riverrun. While construction is going on I need to pay a visit to some cultists holdfasts as well. Our Queen wishes to see them wiped from the land and I share in her sentiments. But I have few fighting men with me and I prefer to focus me efforts on the task at hand rather than leave. When everything seems to be going smoothly I am to go west and aid my hand to the fight there."
