Some of the other knights look on curiously. The Knight of the Gate was a skilled fighter, a man who deserved to wield Lady Forlorn.

Ser Casset welcomes Roland back to the Gate. Since he left, they had two more victories over the Painted Dogs, and the strength of that Clan had been driven from this part of the Mountains. The new threat is the Sons of the Moon to the south, and the continued trouble with the splintered Stone Crows to the North.

OOC: It just struck me that clan names seem like garage band names. Hhehehe. Shall I write up a scouting scenario?

Ser Roland listens intently to Ser Cassets update and asks, "Shall, I take a few men and scout out the Sons of the Moon?"

"Aye, Roland, that would be best. See what you can learn of them," Ser Casset replies.

"Then I shall collect Ser Daven, and we will leave soon after nightfall." Roland gave Ser Casset a curt smile and nod before he left.
Ser Roland tracked down Daven who was sparring with his brother, Harrold, in the training yard. Daven was stronger, of course, and much more experienced, but to Roland's eye Harrold one day would have the better of his elder brother. Roland continued to watch until there was a lull in the sparring match. "Daven, we are to go and scout some clansmen who are causing some trouble. We will leave tonight under cover of darkness. Do you believe Harrold is ready for such action?"
Daven nodded without hesitation, "Yes, I believe so. He gave a good account of himself against the Painted Dogs."
"Alright, both of you get some rest, I will gather the rest of our scouting party, and we'll make our departure," Roland replied.

Some hours later, after midnight, five men wearing boiled leather and dark green and brown cloaks left the Bloody Gate and imediately entered the wilderness rather than staying on the road.

After eleven days the five scouts from the Bloody Gate returned, ragged and tired. The squire Robert Pyle had been standing vigil, awaiting his master's return. He hurried over when he spotted Roland and company enter the keep. "Ser Roland! You's returned! You all looked ragged but unharmed. Did you find the clan scum?"
Roland smiled at his squire, "Yes, Robert, we found them. I trust you kept the Vale safe in your vigilant watch at the Bloody Gate?" Robert laughed heartily. "Now, you must excuse me once again, I must report in to Ser Casset."
At hearing this, the corners of Ser Daven's mouth tightened, though no one noticed. I need a drink. he thought. Nonetheless, he followed Ser Roland to the office of the Knight of the Bloody Gate.
They found Ser Casset looking over some documents. The Knight of the Bloody Gate looked up to find Ser Roland, Ser Daven, and Ser Harmen had entered, along with two others: a youth who looked vaguely like Ser Daven, and a rough looking man he didn't recognize.
Ser Roland spoke, "Ser Casset, the situation with the Brothers of the Moon is strange, but we think we've found the heart of their insurrection."

"The Lord Arryn is in the Stormlands aiding the victims of the starcrash. The Vale is governed by High Steward Lord Wayman Royce at the Gates of the Moon in his absence," Ser Casset replies. "We can lodge you here for the night and you can ride on to the Gates in the morn."
