The Bloody Gate is the great fortress that guards the only navigable pass over the Mountains of the Moon into the Vale of Arryn. It is commanded by the Knight of the Bloody Gate, a title of great honor amongst the Vale's chivalrous.

Ser Roland and party pass through Lord Harroway's Town and turn towards the Vale of Arryn. They enter the foothills of the Mountains of Moon and become immediately wary-- their Valeman instincts alert them that there is trouble in the Mountains.
After three vigilant nights in the Vale they reach the Bloody Gate.

"Congratulations on your appointment to Knight of the Bloody Gate, Ser Casset, it is an honor well bestowed," Roland said. "It is good to return to the Vale, I'm ready to get back to business. What is the current situation with the clans?"

"Belmore is struggling at Strongsong, the Clans up there were agitated by Goldface. Egan and Pryor have done better south of the Coldwater. But the biggest problem are the Painted Dogs. They have been raiding along the road into the Bloody Gate, showing no fear. It is time we delivered them a blow."
"My scouts have spotted an old redoubt they are encamped in. If I led an attack on their position, would you be ready to lead the horse?"

Roland nodded with conviction, "Yes, Ser Casset, anything I can do to assist you."

"Take fifty horseman west along the road. When you reach Slipstone Creek, turn north until you are in the gap under the Gargantuan to your west and the Giant's Leg to your east. You will be able to descend on their position from there. I will take a command of foot and archers to occupy their wall. Once the fighting starts, charge in from behind them and we can make butcher's work," Ser Casset explains. "Lady Forlorn will sing once more."

"Yes, I will depart as soon as I can muster the horse. Please excuse me." Ser Roland gave a nod in salute and then left to get things in order. He found a waiting Ser Daven outside, and asked, "Have you been drinking?"
Ser Daven shook his head, "Sadly, no."
Roland looked him in the eye. "Good, we have a task to perform. Bid my squire Robert to prepare Dusk for war, and make sure my gear is in order. Also, prepare yourself, we ride as soon as we're able." Roland stalked off to find where the horsemen were quartered.
A few short hours later, Roland, Daven, and 53 horsemen left the Bloody Gate, headed west. Roland posted Ser Daven and 7 other horsemen as outriders and flankers. They worked their way through the woods and hills about the mounted company in teams of two ensuring the mounted column was not being followed.

A soldier's feast is thrown in the great hall, the heads of the Painted Dogs chief and his sons placed upon spikes and paraded before being placed above the gates.

There was great feasting in the Bloody Gate, and Ser Roland was toasted and cheered even more loudly than Ser Casset Corbray, the Knight of the Gate.

Ser Daven got drunk, and loudly told many stories that (some) people appeared to be (mildly) interested in.

Lilith Royce, having left the Vale only two weeks ago, is back. She is tired from the two long rides and the general strain on her. Belinda is crotchetty. The Bloody Gate lives up to its name with Painted Dog heads decorating the pathway, depressing her even more.
But the sun peaks through clouds just she passes through the Gates and see the Vale once more before her, the lush jewel of the mountains, the valley of her childhood.

During the feast, Ser Ronald approaches Ser Casset. He said, "The Lady Forlorn made for quite the frightening spectacle against the Painted Dogs. What is it like to wield Valyrian steel?"
