Donal turns to the Hightower knight, "tis but a scratch but I thank you for the concern." He says genuinely with a slight nod, peeking over the man's shoulder to watch the Harpist puking over the floor wondering if the rest of the band would follow his orders and play.

Gareth nodded in affirmation. "You should see the maester anyway in case of poison. I've seen men die from scratches."
Gareth indicated the spit that was embedded in the dead man's chest and smiled wryly. "Twas a nice shot. Have you seen this man before?" he asked.

"Not that I can recall, but I may have an idea to who he is. Or I guess more specifically an idea to who sent him." Donal says with a grin. "The war of the Stepstones may be over for some people it may seem but those fallen can always come back to remind you." Donal says remembering the man with the snake and eye swords as well as the counterpart that was part of the meeting that ended the war. Donal then signals to a couple serving men standing around awkwardly, "Take this body to the basement, we will rid ourselves of him later."

Donal says remembering the man with the snake and eye swords as well as the counterpart that was part of the meeting that ended the war. "Why here though?" asked Gareth. " And who? Did he plan to assassinate all of us who took part in the war? Lord Baratheon alone? Or mayhap the Hand?"

As the dogs charge forward the assassin plunges a blade into one of their backs. His hand slips away from his wound, and his intestines slip out low enough to hook around the dogs neck as it runs, dragging guts behind it. Donal lifts up the spit and turned launches it right at the other man. It flies through his heart. The man stumbles and falls. Dead before he touches the ground. Lord Baratheon appears at his son's side, with a furious expression. "You had to kill him?" he asked Donal, irritably. The black-clad guardsmen stepped up. "Remove this body and take him to the Maester, tell him to make a likeness of the face to use toward identifying him, and to search the body for anything that might say where he came from." "He was not here for me, or anyone else, he was coming for you. Why?" he asked his son.

Donal turns to Gareth with a raised eye brow, "I am sure if the man wanted to kill the hand he wouldn't have been aiming for me. I don't know maybe I killed his brother or something."
Once Lord Baratheon appears Donal turns to face his father with a grin. "Why yes father, I felt that killing him was the way to go." He says snidely, "Judging by his behavior I do not think the man was interested in joining me for a drink."

"Dead men are unable to say who hired him. We would gain more if he was alive," he replied dourly.

"I may have an idea on who hired this man, but I do not think this is the most opportune time for us to discuss it." Donal replies honestly, gesturing to the crowd of people gathered around them.

"Dead men are unable to say who hired him. We would gain more if he was alive," he replied dourly. "My lords, hate to interrupt..." Yohn creeped beside his brother and nephew. "Waiting for orders... Such aggression against House Baratheon shall not go unpunished."

"I have a theory, though its not by any means guaranteed." Donal states. "There was a man that I killed at the last battle of the Step Stones. The same man that kicked Oswyn from the tops of the wall, he was wielding swords that had the hilts fashioned to resemble Snakes and Eyes." Donal states, "Later on when the Volantenese party showed up to talk about the peace treaty another man was there sharing the same style swords. Me and him exchanged glances and he saw that I had taken the first man's swords. He did not seem very pleased and I got the impression that these two men where part of an order of some sort. Our friend here." Donal says gesturing to the man being carried away with his entrails sluggishly following behind him. "Might be part of the same order." He finishes.

Edric had observed the assassination attempt from afar. He would have of course interfered, had he been closer. The situation had been dealt with quickly enough, however. He turned back to Isobel Hightower once the commotion was more or less over. "What a terrible way to start a party," he said, even though he actually thought it had been one of the most interesting things to happen at these endless parties.
Rylene, on the other hand, was quite riled up, but maintained her calm. She approached the two and set down her untouched goblet of wine. "Have the Stormlanders never heard of guards?" she inquired loudly, not particularly caring who overheard. "What a way to treat your guests."

"Most unfortunate," Izzy remarked with a little sigh. "I am sure the Baratheons are quite mortified. It seems all is well. The attacker has been dealt with and order restored. At least it gave everyone something to talk about."

Meletyne approached them uninvited. "If the investigations here leads to nothing, I may have a friend or two back in Volantis who might help..." "If my lords permit, I'll gather some men and already start investigations." Yohn paused and frowned. "I just need to wait for my second in command, who seems to be la..." The Black Stag interrupted his speech as soon as he say Nicomo by the window waving and smiling to him. "Oh... There he is..."

Rylene turned towards Amelia with a skeptical look. It was rather difficult to stay mad seeing how nice the woman had just been, but the northern girl huffed anyway. "Lady, you might look into hiring actual guards as well as just dogs even if it is more costly. The reasonable thing to do here would be to disband this party and er.." she narrowed her eyes at Ser Yohn's second in command and Edric decided to chime in, "Forgive me, my lady. Terrible that such a thing should happen under your roof. Good luck with the investigation."

"Do you?" Amelia looked around at Meletyne as if noticing her for the first time. Perhaps the awful woman had her uses after all, and even a sense of loyalty to her new family. She was furious when Yohn seemed to notice a man waving at him from the window. "Listen to me," she said to Yohn. "I will not have any of your grubby, unsavory associates at this ball, horrifying my guests anew. If your second in command has information for you, I hope you will leave us and meet with him privately. I am sure your wife can make your excuses for you." "What?" Yohn frowned at Amelia, who was this child thinking she was to give him orders? "Do you know who you are talking to, girl?" He loomed over her, blocking the light and sending a shadow across her face.
