He moved over and took a seat close to a stern looking knight who he estimated to be in his fifties - a Baratheon he surmised and a much younger lady sitting my his side. "The dancing must start soon." he said. "Do I know you?" Yohn said sternly, raising an eyebrow and frowning. Lady Meletyne's eyes darted at him as a serpent's, if you didn't pay atention you might even think she was hissing.

"Fire is invaluable when contained and controlled." Oswyn mused. "Damon does not seem to have those qualities. He must be stamped out before he is allowed to spread and reduce the realm to ash." "I know you are probably speaking true words, but I can not wish death on my own flesh and blood." Aenys replied.

"That's the point of these gatherings is it not? To get to know our peers from around the Seven Kingdoms. I am Ser Gareth Hightower. Or maybe it should be Lord Gareth Hightower." He gave a short bark of laughter. "It matters not. Either way will do."

"Lord Yohn Baratheon. And this is my wife, Meletyne." Yohn frowned at Gareth's good humor, laughing was not something that was swallowed easily by the Black Stag. "And regarding your question, no they are not. The whole point of this mummer's spectacle is to show one's house superiority over the other's..." He barked, ignoring the fact that it was meant to be a rethorical question.

"Pleased to meet both of you." replied Gareth with an easy smile, ignoring the other man's sourness. "That is an interesting observation my lord. I do not feel inferior to other houses merely by attending a ball they happen to host."

"I know you are probably speaking true words, but I can not wish death on my own flesh and blood." Aenys replied. "No, I suppose that was separates you from him." he said evenly. "Do you think he will show the same hesitance?"

"I like to think so... but I could be fooling myself." Aenys replied, "I was the one who trained with him. Rickon and I. He was such a natural. Born to have that blade in his hand."

He breaths, "He is indeed. But, let us not think on such horrible moments, this is your party, and I will pray to the seven that your family live a long life." He smiles. "It was in the past, their mourning has passed and I have moved on." He says with a stressed exhale. "Of course," she said. "I am glad you have moved on. Do you have any brothers, sisters or cousins with you in the city, or did you come here alone?" "I did, my Greatuncle, and then my cousin...has decided to join me, my neise Bethany, and my daughter in the Red Keep of course, we are around." He smiles. "Why do you ask?"

"You should." Yohn snapped, leaving a momentary silence.
"Eeeerm...Lord Gareth... I think I've heard of you." She said trying to aliviate the tension. "Aren't you our neighboor from The Stepstones?"

"A guest by my choice for a short time does not make me feel inferior." replied Gareth to Lord Yohn with another laugh. "I can exercise my right to leave here at any time."
He turned to the lady. "I have a keep in the Stepstones, yes. But I was unaware we were neighbors."

Aenys chuckled, "I have many virtues, but chivalry for its own sake has never been one of them."

"A puppet is never aware of his bindings..." Yohn said, looking deep into Hightower's eyes.
Meletyne's nails dug into his her husband's thigh. "Well, our isles are not actually near each other... But we of the Stepstones are one great neighborhood, aren't we?" She gave a tense giggle.

Gareth laughed again. "Well Lord Yohn, perhaps you shall see me dance like a puppet fairly soon. I can assure you it will be entertaining."
He re-filled his wine-cup. "The Stepstones are like to be a smaller version of the Seven Kingdoms, my lady Meletyne. I am sure there will be the same intrigue and petty feuds that are here in Kings Landing and the wider realm." He looked into her face. "I've been trying to work out what house you might have come from orginally my lady. Before you were married to Lord Yohn that is. But you have confounded me."

Aenys chuckled, "I have many virtues, but chivalry for its own sake has never been one of them." "Then I suppose the Grand Maester and Lord Commander will have to balance out the Small Council." he jested.
