Ser Gyles, dressed in his gleaming armour instead of his septon's robes, marched up to the New Castle with brother Braumin. His surcoat, clean and white, bore the seven pointed star in homage to the gods he loved so well. It was not the sigil he had borne before he took vows, but it was most suited to his current purpose.

Brother Braumin was wearing the usual undyed brown robe of the Begging Brothers of the Faith, but he walked with a straight back that showed that there was more than met the eye with the godsworn man. He walked a few steps behind Ser Gyles, as they had agreed upon, and his eyes glared at the guards as they stopped in front of the gates to the home of the Manderlys.
