Jarl was covered in soot, and bowed to Mandon. Jarl was never one for politics and often worked the forge in the keep. He must have been working today.

Mandon bows in turn, giving him status as an equal. Mandon was a lord and represented Lord Royce, but between the two of them Manderly's house was greater.
"Ser Jarl. I am Lord Mandon Sunderland, here to represent Lord Royce. Has your father sent you a raven explaining the new situation to you?" Mandon asks.

"My apologies," Mandon replied. "Then you know Lord Royce has requested your presence in the Vale. He desires for you to serve him, to become friends with his children and his bannermen, to better strengthen the ties between White Harbor and the rest of the Vale."

"It is for the benefit of your home," Mandon answers. "Your father will be back soon to rule. Your path may be harder, but my lord wishes to know what sort of man the future lord of White Harbor is, and to forge the bonds of friendship."
