Garnet asked, "Do you know of any women that would wish to do that besides yourself?"

"Not yet, my lord. But I don't know many women because I've never been outside your lands, so how could I?

"There are more people in Oldtown then half the rest of the Reach." Garnet said, "I can tell you there are few woman who want to fight, and fewer who want to fight and be knights."

"But what abotu the rest of the realm? here must be some who want to be more than wives or mothers," she persisted. "I can't be the only one who wants to achieve something."

"There are many who want to be more then wifes." Garnet frowned, "I doubt the world is ready for them, and even if they want more you will find that few want to be knights. Look at all the woman you know, and only one wants to be a knight."

"Maybe I was too ambitious," she said, disheartened. "But...could I try to do good deeds myself, first? And then see what happens later? If nobody listens to me or wants my help I suppose I shall have to marry after all."

Mariya shrugged.
"I've not given it much thought. I still don't understand why you consider it such a problem, my lord. I have hardly gone around announcing the fact. I knew that would be improper, and boastful."

"The king is telling every one he mets. He is proud of the aid he gave you." Garnet said. "It is a royal proclamation. Those are not allowed to be kept secret. Black wings carry this news to the four corners."

"Ph. Um. But still, I did nothing wrong," she insisted. "I don't understand why this is such a problem when all I did was kill a lion."

Garnet laughed, "Has Lymon gone and taught you the world is fair? Cause it most definitely is not."

"I know that," she said. "But I don't know what to do now. I thought...I thought everything would be alright. But now I'm confused."
Scared too but she didn't want to admit that.
