Her eyes brightened and she straightened her back as she met his gaze and looked steadily at him.
"I'm not ashamed, my lord. I'm proud and honoured. I don't want to pretend it didn't happen."

Finn entered the room after the situation began, having received the message late.
"Milords." he said with a bow of his head.

Mox said, "Yet you deny it in turns."

Finn looked at Mariya, trying to get up to speed as to what this was all about.

Mariya looked at Finn, pleading with him not to speak yet.
"I deny nothing," she said. "But why question me if you already know what happened, my lord?

Garnet said, "It is not the story I wanted from your lips, but your feelings. This pleases does it not?"

Finn raised his eyebrow and put his hands behind his back to wait patiently.

Mariya's expression lightened. She stopped herself from gushing out her gratitude towards the king and to speak in a calm and rational manner.
"Yes, my lord. Of course it pleases me. It was the last thing I expected. But it's what I wanted, and thought I could never have. I just...I thought you were angry with me, my lord."

Mariya gasped and put her hand over her mouth. She glanced uneasily at Finn in confusion before looking back at the lord. She felt anger burning away inside herself, as well as shock.
"I would not. That is the most shameful thing that can ever happen to a woman. I'd rather be dead than...that. The king meant only to please me, my lord, I'm sure of it."

She shook her head.
"With respect, my lord, I disagree. I know that the king meant well and I mean to do honour to his gift. I didn't ask for it, either. Not directly. I asked for training and the king's blessing, but His Grace chose otherwise. Finn will remember that, I'm sure."
She looked at Finn, wondering if he would back her up or not.

"Finn... I will not have you marry her if you do not wish at this point." Garnet turned to look at him as well, "In fact I would recommend against it. The shame would be too great for me to bare. And young love is fleeting."

"My lord... might there be a... middle path?" Finn asked, leaning forward slightly.
