"Could..." Finn tried, "could she be put in your lady wife's employ milord? The Dornish are known to favor stories of women warriors, and such, and much more tolerant of such things, and Mariya IS good with a sword, and would be a loyal bodyguard, and an unexpected one."

Mariya still didn't actually want to overturn the King's decision but she was confused as to where that left her.
"But...why summon us here then? I...um...don't know what to do."

"I can speak with her. Yet she can not be her a lady maid forever? Nor do I think she wishes to be." Garnet replied.

Mariya was silent for a while.
"No, you're right, my lord. I would be honoured to serve Lady Isolvelle for a time - she has been kind to me - but it's not a lifelong post, truly."

Mox spoke up, "Is the lady a knight in her heart as well as in name?"

Finn nodded firmly, "She is milord."

Of everything that had been said at the meeting, this one surprised her the most. She turned and looked at Mox, initially unable to speak. But then she nodded and found her voice.
"Yes. At least I think so. I hope so. I have always loved the ideas of chivalry and honour, and I love the gods well too."

Mox said, "Then I have no use of her."

Mariya looked at them all.
"I just want to be of use to somebody, she said, very firmly. "What is so wrong with that?"

Garnet said, "There is nothing wrong with that. We just need to find some place for you to be useful."

"What about Lady Isolvelle's kin in Dorne? Would they help me?" She asked.

Garnet gave Mox a hard look, "I am not sure. You can visit Dorne and ask her if you wish."

Finn bowed his head, "I'm sorry Mariya," he said, "Milords, I'll go now," he said, disappearing from the room as soon as practical.

She saw the look and wondered what it meant.
"Perhaps it would be more prudent to write a letter first?" She suggested. "I would not wish to impose. But must I give up my dream thenIt was hard for her to get the question out and she felt her heart break in the asking.

Garnet asked, "What was your dream?"
