House of the Spear

[The Smith]

Rhodri nodded, "Not to bad. I can tell you were taught this weapon by a swordsman though. We need you to fight like a spearsman."

[House Frey]

Tytos nodded. "I implored Ser Erik to teach me, but he was a swordsman. I would be honored to have you teach me, Lord Rhodri. It is because of you I wished to fight with the spear... my milk mother told me stories," he rambled, catching himself at the end and growing embarrassed.

[The Smith]

Rhodri nodded and said, "Those stories make me seem a great warrior, when I am merely a lucky one. Every battle is a gamble, and all are practice and training is just to stack the odds in our favor a little more."

[House Frey]

Tytos screwed his face up in thought. It was nearly the opposite of what Garlan always told him, but he would take Lord Rhodri's word over Garlans.

He nodded. His grip tightened and relaxed on the spear. "Your spears are better than the ones I've used," he said, looking at the shaft and speartip. "That stacks the odds in your favor too, does it, mi'lord?"

[The Smith]

Rhodri nodded, "They do." He studied the boy a moment longer and then said, "Now make an attack, and then reset back to your base."

[House Frey]

Tytos did so without hesitation, stepping firmly into a thrust, before returning to his ready position.

Garlan had not let him practice with the spear, and he thought he might be rusty. He waited anxiously for Rhodri's reaction.

[The Smith]

Rhodri nodded, "Quite good. There is some work that must be done, but you have a solid foundation."

[House Frey]

Tytos could not help but feel a swell of pride grow in his chest.

"Thank you, Lord Rhodri," he managed, staying completely still as he was. "Will you be training me, my lord?"

[The Smith]

"Of course." Rhodri replied, "I will turn you into a proper spearman yet."

[Lord Gareth Hightower]

Ser Eldon Grandison and his brother Renly Grandison arrive at the House of the Spear to speak with Rhodri Royce.

[The Smith]

The two Grandisons are shown into a private room. Lord Rhodri enters shortly later with a frown on his face, and his clothes rumpled, "Gentlemen, how may I help you?"

[Lord Gareth Hightower]

Ser Renly spoke quickly and to the point.

"Lord Rhodri, greetings. We have just received a raven from Grandview. Apparently Dornish troops are marching towards the Stormlands through the passes in the Dornish marches. My father Lord Edwyn has recalled Ser Eldon here, his son and heir, to help him organise a possible defence.

"However we believe the city gates are locked to all traffic.

"My brother serves as our Lord Father's battle commander. As the brother of the Hand, we ask you to grant that Ser Eldon be allowed to return to Grandview as soon as possible."

[House Frey]

Tytos can only beam at that. "As you say, Lord Rhodri. When can we start?"

[The Smith]

Rhodri shrugged off his shirt, and smiled, "Now." They began to practice hard with the spear. Many hours later, Rhodri tells him to find a room, and make himself comfortable.

[House Frey]

Exhausted, Tytos does so.
