Jon, his glass refilled by a servant, lifted it as well. "To an interesting discussion, no, conversation," he said with a smile. "Though I'd call it hilarious in comparison to the rest of the proceedings here."

"As long as ya didn't lose anything more important!" Lyanne exclaimed, before letting out a belch. "At first that deserter sounded pretty stupid, chancing it up beyond the Wall but now it sounds like he had a swift mind. Did you find him?" "We didn't, he found us." He replied with a shiver, "For seven whole days we fought to live, and every day a little hoped leaked from our hearts. Then one day we woke, and the storm had stopped, he dug out, and stared south, knowing that we must walk back to the wall, when suddenly an arrow killed me bast mate." "We feel back to the hut, but we were surronded by twenty men. The deserter had joined up with a band of wildlings, and they had come south to kill us dead."

Lyanne gasped at the sudden twist in the tale. "So... what happened? You're here now so you must have beaten them, right? One man of the Night's Watch is worth five wildlings, or so Benjen says."

"There was five of us left, and all of us wounded. And they did not attack, but waited for hunger to force us from our shelter." He shook his head, "Two whole days we waited knowing that soon we would have to run fer it. Cause our strength was waning."

"So tell me, Jon, where is your Lord father?"

Lyanne was glued to her seat with tension, her eyes wide. "Then... then what happened?" She asked in a low voice, excited and still somehow afraid for the evidently present watchman's face.

"At home," Jon replied, drinking his wine before setting it down swiftly. "Ah, but do excuse me, I find I need the privy." He smiled and got up before leaving the hall.

Lyanne was glued to her seat with tension, her eyes wide. "Then... then what happened?" She asked in a low voice, excited and still somehow afraid for the evidently present watchman's face. "Lance Sand killed them all." One night we fall asleep worrying bout our impending doom, the next morning in walks the First Ranger asking if we were alright." He smiled wide, "All twenty dead at their camp or in their watches."

Lyanne laughed loudly. "What a story! This Lance Sand I must meet! He is the rescuing cavalry in one man!" She grunted. "That's not him is it?" She asked, pointing at the young watchman.

"Nah thats just a dead man." He replied, and chuckled at a fleeting memory.

"A dead man?" Lyanne asked, one eyebrow raised. "He is sitting right in front of us." She poked the young man's leg. "Hey you!"

The man looked at her, and said with contempt, "What?"

"Why so quiet, hmmm?" Lyanne asked with a friendly if slightly mocking smile. "This is a feast, enjoy yourself!"

The man looked at her, and replied, "I have nothing to celebrate." He turned, and walked away.

"Ouch," Lyanne said, watching the man leave for a few moments before turning back to the other black brother. "He must not like being in the Watch."
