Maekar followed the old man at first then ran ahead, beckoning Leilanna to follow. He wondered what strange or awful thing they would find.

In the main hall there are three men with swords and axes, hacking up five septons, and septas. Other run up the stairs, and from the room.

"Throw down your swords!" He demanded.

The men look up, and seeing actual steal turn and run back out into the courtyard.

Benjen turned at once to the men and women who were attacked. He checked them carefully to see if any still lived.

The five on the floor are dead. But more septons, and septas come rushing out to care for the wounded. Benjen can see they have a deft hand.

The septon bent over and vomited all over the floor, "Dear Father Protect us. That would be digusting beyond measure. What kind of man would do such a thing?"

He was careful not to look at the man's vomit on the floor. He ran until he reached the gates.

At the gate men, women and children were running into the keep. Many were crying, and some had wounds or burn marks.
Benjen could see flames in the distance. Wintertown was burning.
