"That is a risk yes, I wouldn't have liked it if Tyrek died. If I had a say I would have recommended training blades or some other competition." Arya shrugged, "I am happy that the good man did win."

Joanna smiled and patted Arya on the shoulder.
"There., you see. We all like it better if the righteous man wins but it's as much a test of skill as of the gods' favour."
She paused and looked hard at Arya.
"So...you like this Tyrek?"

Arya nodded, "He's nice and honourable. His father raised him right. He could be popular at court if he ever goes there."

"Is he a potential husband, then?" Joanna asked.

"Marriage is one of the things furthest from my mind Joanna. I wouldn't make any big decisions like that whilst I'm staying here. I'm lonely yes, but I'm not going to run off to be married."

Joanna smiled sadly.
"I'm not saying you should, but if you see a suitable candidate you should be prepared to think of the future, that's all. Marrying in haste is never a good idea. Just don't discount a man because you're not ready yet."

"Well Ser Aiden is a good and honourable man but I had heard that he was now in the Kingsguard. It is hard not to be dissapointed since I thought that we could come to terms. Tyrek hasn't even been knighted. I have plenty of time to think here, to go over what I want. Now that my father is dead, I don't think many men will have much interest in me anymore." She pouted sadly.

That surprised Joanna; she didn't understand her cousin's logic there.
"Why would they not want you now? You are as pretty as you always were and any man worth having will understand that you are grieving now."

"I don't have a dowry nor anyone to speak for me. I'm not privileged to any land but my father's manse. I'd rather not be looked at as a prize but that is how this world works Joanna."

Joanna frowned.
"Did your father not allow for your dowry? Will Rhaegar not give you one?"

"I haven't heard anything from Rhaegar nor any of my kin save from my brother at Star Isle. Rhaegar and I were always close, I suppose his silence has a reason behind it, he's a lord after all, but a letter would be nice. If I am to marry someone of high standing then I will need the support of him of course. Otherwise I will have to rely on my beauty."

"If beauty is all a man desires you will have your pick," Joanna saod comfortingly. "But I hope you find someone who wants you for yourself, not for your looks. It's worrying that Rhaegar does not write, though. In the present circumstances we might have expected better of him. He ought to give you a dowry no matter who you marry. If he doesn't, we shall ask Daemon."

"Hm, Rhaegar should do so I think. I think asking Daeron would be quite an imposition on him. We don't really know eachother that well other than the few times we have talked." She smiled, "And thank you for your kind words. It helps. I have missed having a companion to share my feelings with."

"Me too. I have Jon, of course, but we don't always think alike. It always helps having another woman to talk to. You're right, though. It's Rhaengar's duty to see his sisters provided for. We shall have to makae suer he sees it, when the time comes."

"Yes." She nods emphatically. "With you with me he'll have to bend the knee." She smiled. "When you go to court send me a letter if you have the time. It will give me pleasure to read about gossip though it would be many weeks old."
