Rowan nodded, "I am lucky enough to be under the tutelage of Eustace Baratheon, and had the fortune of being at his home when the Queen called him," Rowan replied in the affirmative.
"And for the Joust, well I did draw favorably," he smiled.

"You did," Ivan agreed. "I could scarcely be happier for you. Your cousin is envious, of course, but then he's something of a show off and hates to see other men triumph where he has failed. You made a sensible choice with the Queen of Beauty's laurel, fortunately. Is there no girl who takes your fancy, though? Assuming the queen's grace is not the unattainable object of your affections."

Rowan laughed, "I think it was a safe choice, uncle, she is clearly worthy and had I chosen any other woman the others would have been upset and I'd rather face an army of wights rather then a handful of jealous women."
"I have not been in court long, so not much opportunity to meet any of the young ladies, having traveled north very shortly after arriving and with Tournament preperations and the like."
"Eustace promised me introductions to his niece Arianne Martell, but the Lord Hand is a busy man."

"Ariadne Martell is dead," Ivan said harshly. "You are too late to meet her, Rowan. She was brutally murdered, poor child."

Rowan nods but then immediately forgets this piece of information, staring off at some sweet young thing's ample cleavage, "oh," Rowan finally says before regaining focus, "Uncle Ivan what exactly do you do for the Queen? I heard your in her Grace's graces but not sure why."
OOC: Yeah I learned this with my talk with Eustace which is technically after this conversation.

Ivan merely smiled.
"Why, nephew, I do whatever Her Grace requires of me. I am her personal aide. I listen to her concerns, offer my opinion, speak to people on Her Grace's behalf about minor matters, thigns that do not require the Small Council's involvement. As to why, I am Selwyn's man blood and bone and the queen has need of loyal friends. Her position must be a lonely one and I wish only to serve to the best of my ability. Teh connection suits us both."

Rowan nodded, "that's good Uncle from what limited interactions I have had with her grace she appears to be a swift learner. . . our politics have been complicated for some time and it would be difficult for a foreigner to understand the subtleties quickly without help. "

"i agree," Ivan said. "It's ahrder for a woman too. Rhaenys must be king as well as queen, whereas a male ruler has only the one role to fulfil. I would not care for such power myself. It suits me best to advise from the shadows. What about you? Do you seek greater power, nephew?"

"I just want to Joust," Rowan laughed, "although as long as people are listening I don't mind talking, I never was the quiet sort."

"No, true enough. So your greatest desire in life is to be a tourney champion all your days?"

Rowan laughed, "oh I don't know about that Uncle, eventually all boys have to grow up, for now I am just happy to help the Hand and the Queen where ever my talents may be required."
