Anne became suddenly aware of her clothing. It wasn't strictly speaking rough, and was probably one of the finer garments one would find in Tedmyn's Down-- unfortunately that isn't saying a lot when one is in King's Landing. Anne looked around the room feeling a burning sensation that was probably embarrassment. "I have not met the Lady Bettley, though my father spoke fondly of her."

"She's in the Tower of the Hand right now. The Hand hasn't let her out of his sight since she was returned to him." Aranya was not dressed in much finer clothing than Anne - she wore a doeskin vest over her roughspun tunic, black woolen breeches and boots. She wore furs in the cold, but indoors she discarded them and sat comfortably at the longtable with Roland and Anne.
"I've lived with these people long enough to know their ways," Aranya now told Anne. "You will need a bunch of silk and lace, and you need to know all those courtly dances, and how to talk and how to sing and eat. How to take a shit when you use a nice chamber pot. I don't bother with any of it, but I think, considering everything, you might have to." She tore off a piece of bread to munch on.
"Lady Bettley is very much a lady. Like my sister. She's been a courtier for a long time, and she'll know what to teach you." Aranya sounded almost kindly. She smiled at Anne.

Anne's face grew red at Aranya's description of the baser human function. She took another comfortable swig of ale (seems there are some things you can learn in Tedmyn's Down). "I should like very much to meet her."
Roland put in, "She's actually the first of the Royces I met when I came to King's Landing, Anne."

Aranya approved of Anne's brave liver. "Do you ride, Anne? Rhod is fond of hunting. So am I, when the thirst takes me."
Aranya grinned at Roland's words. "Yes, Auntie said how sweet and bewildered you were. Aww, Rollie." She pinched his cheek as a mother or aunt might.

The elevated Roland pulled away playfully, laughing deeply. His manner seemed so much easier now that he was near his family, though maybe it was just the beer.
Anne laughed lightly at her brother. "I ride, but, not with any great skill. I have never hunted."

"You lived all your life in a mountain keep but you can't ride and hunt?" Aranya turned on Roland, aghast. "What have you done, walled your sister up in a tower? I'm taking you riding, Anne. And hunting. The Kingswood is the royal hunting ground, and it has excellent game. Roland and I have gone with large Royce and Arryn hunting trips. They're great fun."

Roland raised his hands up, palms outward, defeated. "Look, here, it was all mothe--"
Anne cut him off, "My mother was a lady of the Reach. She did not want my hands to be calloused from the employment of arms nor my maidenhead shattered by hard riding... of the... horse..." She trailed off, realizing the ale may have inspired her to say a little much.
For his part, Roland tried to choke back his laughter, but to no avail. Anne stared into her plate while Roland nearly fell from his chair.

Aranya laughed so hard that she choked and set down her mug with a loud thump. She and Roland roared with laughter, causing heads to turn their way.
"Oh good gods," Aranya finally said, wiping her eyes as she caught her breath. For once, she seemed at a loss for words. "Have no fear on that account, coz. Or on the other matter of being a lady. I think you'll do just fine after all." She started laughing again.

Anne just froze, still staring at her plate. Her face and ears turned a deep beet red. OOC: heading to bed, Aranya.

Black Ben Tollett appears at the Bronzehall doors requesting an audience with the Lord of the Vale-- or his second, should he be absent.

He is ushered into the Greathall where a great many of the knights of the Vale continue to feast. Rhodri is summoned over and greets Tollett.

Tollett bows most formally and cuts to the point of the meeting. "Kit went with several knights into the Kingswood. Who knows what they were doing, but they haven't returned. I had taken it for a day ride, when Kit told him his plans, but perhaps he had more sinister intentions. I now fear for his safety."

"Are you certain he did not ride on for the Reach or Stormlands? He has friends and kin in each. But the Kingswood is rife with bandits, enough to endanger even such a man as Kit. How many men rode with him? Enough to keep the bandits at bay?" Rhodri asks.

"No, he most certainly told me he was riding to the Kingswood. Briefly before we had mentioned Kennos Keath, the bandit king, but I am not certain Kit would have gone to fight Keath..."
"Half a dozen men rode with him."

"Keath certainly has more men than that, and a half dozen knights would not scare him or his company. Should we arrange a search?" Rhodri asks.
