"have you ever known anyone to give up after a failed attack Your Grae?" Gen asked. "And thank you for the offer but I think that I can deal with someone trying to kill me. I mean no offence Your Grace. but if I am to find this person, it would be easier without my movemets tracked easily. Ragnor has given me a few loyal men."

"How do you know those men are not spies in your midst?" Rhaenys demanded. "Trust no-one that you cannot be utterly sure of, Lady Greyjoy. That is the lesson I have learned."

She smiled. "I am not as stupid as most think. These men some of them I have known since birth or thereabouts. And I know about trust Your Grace.
"That is the reason that prehaps you have at least five armed guards nearby, even though I hold no weapon at the moment I could try to kill you with my bare hands as that is what people like Lord Dawnrose has told you. But maybe he forgot to say that in the last war, his family switched sides no less then twice, prehaps more."

Rhaenys groaned inwardly - that was the last thing she wanted to hear - but managed to keep a straight face. Gods save me from old enemies! I can't afford to take sides.
"I heard something of that nature," she said. "Not from Dawnrose himself, I admit, but I can hardly blame him for not wanting to speak of his family's shame. I will remember it but I won't judge Lord Dawnrose according to the behaviour of his ancestors. I am confident that he is loyal, no matter what his predecessors did. The same applies to you Ironborn. Unfortunately, the stories about your people are more longstanding than the things I've heard about House Dawnrose, but then they are a fairly new house. I will not judge yourself and Lord Greyjoy according to old grudges though, nor will I compare you to your villainous father."

"For that I am thankful." She said. "But then you could say that the stories of your family, no offence your grace, but some of them are more horrific then we could ever dream to be."

"Then I hope you will extend me the same courtesy I have given yu, by not judging me by my ancestors."

"I would never dream of such a thing. I do know a thing or two about being judged before met. Comes with who my Father was."

"It's the same for us," Rhaenys commented. "i'm srue you know the saying, that a Targaryen will either turn out to be great or mad?"

She hid a smile.
"I have..." Ganieda then grinned. "So which are you Your Grace, I have yet to decide."

"I'd like to say the former but sometimes I think I must be the latter, to deal with the matters I must deal with every day of my life," Rhaenys said. "Perhaps you too will understand, one day. Or do you mean to leave all matters of ruling the Iron Islands to your husband?"

Euric sighed. "You of all should know that I am an able commander of men, however if those are the terms then I will stick with the main army. What did I think, wanting to help out the Mander? I should concentrate on my own territory."

Euric's tone set the queen's nerves on edge. She didn't want to deal with resentment right now.
"You have no territory until I find myself in a position to give you some," she reminded him. "But there are no terms, precisely. If you wish to go aid the Mander, you shall. I am merely worried about the diplomatic implications. For myself, I am happy for you to have the command, but can you be sure the Mander men will aid you as appropriate?"

"I am glad you are so able in reminding me of my lack of territory." Euric replied with cold sarcasm. He was not in a good mood... not since Alysanne had left. "And I cannot see why the Mander would deign to put off anyone wishing to help. We're all supposed to be of one army and able to trust each other, though I guess that is somewhat of an impossibility of recent."

"And what do you mean by that?" Rhaenys demanded.

"I'd expect her grace to know what I mean; half the lords on your side are untrustworthy bastards."
