Selwyn moved his eye to her face, "She spoke to me of marriage alliances. And intimated that if I survived one might be necessary." He shrugged, "I did not expect to survive."

Rhaenys hoped Jeyne would hurry back with her breeches. Much as she had enjoyed Selwyn looking lustfully at her, it was strange to have a conversation while she was half naked
"We all knew there was a possibility that we might die," she told him. "I for one am very glad you survived. I do not know if she told you, but she was most insistent that my children take the Targaryen name."

Selwyn nodded, "I knew of that. She talked of it once or twice. It is better. Eustice will not have to worry about his keep."

She smiled at him.
"I'm glad. I did not want to have to fight you over the situation when it's normally the other way here in Westeros. Mother wished you to take our name also, not just the children. Do you mind that?"

"I will not pretend to be some one I am not." Selwyn replied.

Rhaenys frowned at him.
"So you won't take my name?"

Selwyn shook his head. "I am not a Baratheon any more though." He sighed, "I will simply be Selwyn the Scarred."

"No," Rhaenys said firmly. "My consort must have a House. I've given you so much. Command of my armies, the position as Hand, the promise of marriage and of children. I even gave you my own body before our duty required me to do so. Will it be so hard for you to do this one thing to please me?"

Selwyn's mouth quirked down, "This is the one thing I must do? Are you implying that I have done nothing until now?"

She looked annoyed.
"Certainly not! You've done a lot for me, and for Westeros. I am grateful to you, but it would please me if you took my name. I am not asking you to be something you are not. A name is only a word, after all, but, if you took my name, it would be a show of unity to the people. It would set the seal upon the new order we will create together, and it would honour my mother's dying wish."

Selwyn yawned and scratched his shoulder, "At least we both agree a name is only a word."

She was still thinking of a reply when Jeyne appeared and handed her a new pair of breeches. She sent the woman outside again and focused on dressing herself before she looked at Selwyn again, leaning in close and running her hand along his scarred face.
"Is there anything I could do that would persuade you to change your mind?"

"I can not be bought with a good fuck. I will do what is right." Selwyn replied gravelly.

She didn't know whether to be glad or sorry that he'd answered as he did. It would have been easier if she could seduce him into doing as she wished but that would have spoiled the pleasure they'd already taken from one another.
"I didn't meant that, specifically," Rhaenys said. "Is there anything else I could for you? And why is refusing to take my name the right thing to do?"

"If I thought this was better for the Realm I would do it, not matter how objectionable I found it. But it is not better for the Realm. It is better for you." Selwyn replied.
