"The Martells know him, Queen Rhaenys. Julian Sand described him to me after I reported the attack to him. He said they did black magic. He has sandy hair, tends to wear all black from what I saw, and has those cultist eyes. He also said Ser Talyn and Lord Bolton's force was full of....straw men."

"I wonder what he meant by that," she said. "The term straw man is often used to describe men who aren't realm, I know. At least that was the custom when they used to rig elections in Sothorys. Or...a thatcher is a man who works with straw. That could be what he meant. But tell me what you meant about 'cultist eyes'. How can you tell the difference?"

"You know, the ice blue wight eye color. He looked like a wight who was still alive." You've fought them for years now, right? Dyther didn't care much for Sothoryos, whatever the hell that was.

"I see. So why are you wanted to come along with me to fetch back my captive sister? As revenge?"

"I'm not sure how to answer that. He probably plans on slaughtering us all, using the runaway princess as bait. I can't imagine he's very happy with me."

Rhaenys had the same worry but she had to go along, to find out what had truly happened to Kyma and in the hope of getting her back.
"Nor with anyone, it seems. It seems likely we must all play along and be on our guard for danger. Will you come willingly, in hopes of killing this Steve, or must I put you in irons and make you come?"

Harder on me for coming along willingly than the bastard for losing her in the first place. "I'll join our little death parade. You ARE sure our princess was kidnapped, right? She didn't willingly run away?"

"She did run, for the sake of her pride, but was captured from the place she ran to," Rhaenys answered. "You serve my betrothed Lord Selwyn, I believe?"

"Yes, Your Grace. I'm a stormlander, which puts him as our titular commander. He has been much busier running the army as a whole, of course."

"Of course. If you do your part in this, and both my sister and I live, I may be able to offer you some token of gratitude for your assistance."

How generous. I bet Steve paid better. "Killing Steve is reward enough."

She eyed him with surprise. It wasn't like a man to refuse reward, not from her recent experience.
"How...refreshing to meet someone who wants nothing of me,. she said. "Many of the men I've met since I claimed my mother's crown have done little besides beg me for favours. I will be interested to see if you change your mind if we survive this. I won't take the offer back."

"Not much that I need."

"All men want something," Rhaenys argued. "You must, else why do you live?"

"With your permission, you may not wish to hear my desires for life, Your Grace. I should love a Valyrian sword, a giant castle, a hundred woman harem, and a crown, but for a simple man of the sword as myself, immortality shall suffice."
