"And we all follow like fucking sheep." Ragnor says, loud enough for those around him to hear.

She didn't take the hand.
"No," said Rhaenys. "I will not make an alliance to someone who means to challenge me later. You know what I have but you do not speak of what you offer."

"She brings the line from the Dragon Kings that killed themselves and burnt Kings Landing to the ground. The Kings that allowed Dorne to become independent."

Ariel shrugged. "I offer an end to Edmure's posturing. I offer my network of whisperers, and possibly a child to wed to yours to end all dispute, instead of landing my claim in the lap of the children of Aedon the Bloody or Maerys the Undone. I don't have more than a dozen men in this army I could call on for certain. But if you do not accept, then you do not accept. I have absolutely no intention of taking this to blades or poisons. As you said, I hope we can work together to secure the future of this realm, whether we swear alliance or no."
She turned around and stepped back to her position. "Edmure, if you oppose my claim, swear to hers."

Ragnor shoves his way to the middle of the congregation.
"A lord has a question for the would-be queens. What exactly is the difference between one girl and another born of an incestuous line of madmen and fools?"

Edmure shrugged. He then stepped forward with his sword drawn he kneels with it before him, "I Edmure Dawnrose Lord of Dawnrose Keep blood of the Dawn Raider swear myself and those of the Mander to survive into your service Queen Rhaenys."

Saenarys groaned.

"I cannot accept," Rhaenys told Ariel. "Queens do not accept rival claimants as allies. It would never work, lest we divided the kingdom in half and I do not think the lords would welcome that."
She looked to Ragnor.
"The difference is that I am the daughter of the woman who died to save your home from the foul others. She wanted me to succeed her."
Rhaenys looked down at Edmure as he swore to her. She placed her hand on his shoulder.
"I accept your fealty and hope that others will follow your good example."
She hoped that those who had already sworn to her would do so again while all the others could see. It was necessary for those who were uncertain to see that she had strong allies.

Ragnor just laughs. "My father died for my home. Your mother? I doubt she gave a damn for the Islands one way or the other. How it's always been, how it always will be."

Ariel looked at Rhaenys with a smile and a nod. "Then we understand one another. I have no intention to rive the kingdom."

Saenarys sighed. His common sense was tingling. Danger.

"I think the men will find their knees bending easier, if they knew their Queen had a little more clear a goal than to 'march south." Talyn said, stepping forward, "I've only got twenty men, but we're for anyone with a plan to retake the south, and oust Thaddeus and the Cult."

"Ah yes, a desperate charge blindly into enemies unknown and numerous." Ragnor says, rolling his eyes. "How will we manage that, exactly?"

Rhaenys fought back her irritation with Ragnor.
"My mother cared about the whole kingdom, the Iron Islands included. So too do I. I wish to see peace restored everywhere."
To Ariel she nodded and said "Good. I do not wish to fight with you."
Rhaenys turned to Talyn.
"I regret there has not been time for me to make specific plans to deal with the Cult. I have been busy with other matters. I am sure Lord Selwyn will tell what he can of the plans he has been making."
She signalled to Selwyn that he should speak.

"Seems to have worked for us so far," Talyn said sarcastically. "And this is the Council, not the outhouse, Iron born, so you've come to the wrong place to just shit on everything that comes up. I didn't say blindly charge, I said I'd like to hear a plan. Let them answer the question."
And he waited for Selwyn to speak with rapt attention.
