Ariel spoke, softly and neutrally. "By what right did your mother claim the throne?" she asked.

Rhaenys met the eyes of the other woman, knowing that here was a probable rival. She vowed to stand firm before the lords.
"By right of blood and of conquest."

Saenarys' eyes found Ariel, though he did not question this query. He had treated with Ariel before, and knew that she would not voice even a harrumph or cough if she didn't have ten statements to back it up.

Edmure stepped back to look at the speaker.
'Excellent it's been a day and already they argue amongst themselves.' Was what the Lord thought.

Ariel nodded. "The right of blood, I dispute. Saella Arryn's husband, the one named King Aegon the Tenth, was crowned improperly. I stand as Ariel Nymeros Targaryen, daughter of Quintin Nymeros Targaryen, son of Aegon Targaryen, brother to King Aemon, and son of King Aegon Targaryen, the Ninth of his Name. The ancient blood-right of House Targaryen is mine."
She looked directly at Rhaenys, then inclined her head respectfully. "As for your other claim, I consider there to be greater matters at work than which of us is in the right. I will accept your leadership in the campaign against the Cult of the Dead God, and refuse to press my claim while the kingdom is in such chaos. I will challenge in honor or not at all."

Rhaenys sighed inwardly but kept her face straight.
"I am the blood of the dragon, raised as a king's daughter. My father was a crowned king and my mother bore the Targaryen blood also. That is what matters in the eyes of gods and men. There are men here who have knelt to me already, Selwyn Baratheon included. An anointed king, yet he knelt to my mother Saella and acknowledged her his liege lady. Where a king leads, men follow. As her eldest daughter, I am Saella's rightful heir."

Ariel smiled. "No dispute in that, Rhaenys, heir to Saella. I, Ariel, heir to Aegon, follow you as I have before. I've said my piece." She stepped back, that smile not leaving her face.

Saenarys waited to see if any more family would climb out of the cellars of the past to make a claim. Or crypts rather.

Edmure decides to speak up, "So who is the ruler? Will this alliance continue until it suits someone. War has carried on for too long. Time is needed for a long peace."

"Perhaps we will find a way to work together for the good of the realm," Rhaenys said to Ariel.
She then looked at the men gathered before her.
"Who will fight under my banner?"

"Where are we fighting next?" Talyn called out, indistinguishable from the similarly mailed men around him.

"I will if you answer my question."

Ariel turned to Edmure. "It's a different alliance now. Ask me later if you want a private rundown."

"No I want the answer's now. The Lords and Knights here must swear to a ruler and we must all know that they are the only and unquestioned ruler. Civil War will help no one."

Rhaenys held up a hand.
"Lord...Dawnrose, isn't it? If you fight under my banner, I would hope you would also acknowledge me as your queen. The former King Selwyn is sworn to me now and so all lords loyal to him are my lords now also. Lord Selwyn has agreed to serve as my Hand. We are moving slowly south. Lord Selwyn has already begun to make plans for our advance. We will move out tomorrow. I will ask all of you to be ready. We need every sword we can muster."
