Loren nodded recognizing the scold, he knew that the High septon gave up his name but he had thought it necessary to discriminate between the last of the two men to hold the faiths highest office.
"I know that there are many Septon's that support the need for action, perhaps you too are among those. . . the Father would judge me for making such a quick opinion on your beliefs given our short conversation here today," Loren said back pedaling a little,
"I recognize that the Faith's ability to establish military orders were banned. . . yes. . . but I think most would agree that decree did not silence the Faith's responsibility to ensure its voice is heard by those who can most effect change in our realm," Loren said exhausted from his discussion.
"Know this. . . the Faith will always be welcomed as a friend among my House and I will lend my voice when needed. I ask, however, that you ensure my concerns are relayed to the most devout. To light a torch in a room with no windows does little to help those that are most in need of illumination."

Lucas looked pleased as Loren made his final point, "whoever taught you has reason to be very proud of themselves, Lord Irwyn, you argue matters of the Faith very eloquently. The Most Devout will hear of our discussion, they will be pleased to know of your faith and friendship."

Loren smiled, "I have most enjoyed our discussion, I hope that we can have more in the future and if your travels ever find you administering to the Faithful in the Reach please don't hesitate to make a call. May the father bless your passing and let the crone light your way."
Loren smiled as he headed towards the exit. He pressed a few coppers here and a few stags in the hands of the poor gathered on the steps of the Great Sept.

////////////////////////////////////////////////// The Lord Commander entered the Great Sept, and knelt down before the feet of the Warrior's statue, bowing his head in prayer. He made his vigil every few days, visiting each statue in turn, praying to the Seven. Mostly he prayed for forgivness for his broken vows, something that had gnawed at him for nearly sixteen years, though each vigil reminded him that the Great Sept was the place where his tryst had begun.

The High Septon entered, wearing a rather plain white robe, and none of his usual accoutrements. It was widely understood that this High Septon, compared to the last one, was a plain dressed, and plain spoken religious man.
"Master Royce, I'm told you wished to speak with me?"

"I do, High Septon. It concerns the matter of my cousin Lord Roland Royce's vigil," Brandon paused. "I had hoped that it could be held here, High Septon".

"Lord Roland followed the Seven, I am led to understand, since he was anointed in his knighthood. Ordinarily... Master Royce, I should acquiesce immediately, but I am concerned that well meaning gestures on my part may be misinterpreted by others. Do you have permission from His Grace for a public ceremony?"

"No I have not," Brandon admitted. "Though I understand that there is no higher authority regarding the Seven than you, I do not think the King would allow it if I were to ask".

The High Septon scrunched up his face unhappily. "No, regarding religious practice there is no higher authority. But I should not wish to anger the secular authorities either by having them mistake the ceremony for any kind of political endorsement. Would you perhaps consent to a more private ceremony in a smaller sept? I should gladly perform the ceremony for you there. I am only concerned that spectacle may draw unwanted attention."

"A private ceremony would be fine, High Septon. Thank you for your time," Brandon said and bowed.

"May the Crone light your way my son." The High Septon replied, frowned again, and went back to his private solar.

The High Septon is alone in his chamber when Tomas finds him. He is sitting, having tea with an empty spot across from him.
