-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Great Sept is a tall and beautiful building that includes seven crystal towers that stand tall over the nearby buildings.

Loren Irwyn enters the Great Sept, it is quiet as most people are at the fair. He nods his head in acknowledgement of a Septon and begins his devotion at the Altar of the Father, taking a knee and saying a few prayers.

Septon Lucas nodded back respectully to the Far Reach lord. He hovered around the Great Sept far enough away to leave the man in peace while he prayed, but close enough should the man have need to call on him.

Loren worked his way through the stations of the seven lighting a candle at every altar and taking extra time to honor the Smith and Warrior, when he finished after about an hour he rose and passed by the Septon again.
He whispered honoring the sanctity of the place, "How thee fair Septon?"

Septon Lucas looked to be in his fifties, and beneath his robe his shoulders, which were broader than most Septons', suggested that he had not always been merely a man of the cloth.
Lucas' smile was one of calm serenity. "I am very well, my lord, thank you for asking. And how are you?" he whispered in return.

"I am blessed to be standing in one of the most beautiful symbols of our faith Septon, it is perhaps the only bright spot in this dark city, during these dark times," Loren said his face darkening as he mentioned his critique of King Landing.

"I am glad the beauty of the sept can bring light to your heart, my lord, but do not dispair so much over the rest of the city. It is all the work of the Seven, from the humblest of hovels to the grandest of castles, we see them in everything, if we look hard enough."

"Yes though the faith's prominence in the realm has dwindled," Loren sighed.
"These past decades have brought more wars and pestillence on our land then any period in recent history. Foreign Invaders, Cults to God's of Elementals and the Dead God spring up and our left unchecked by the Lords who barely devote a copper to spread the word of the Faith," Loren looks down depressed.
"I do not beseech the seven to intercede on my behalf and the Father knows that the Smith has laid a painful path for my family, though I trust it is for the service of the seven and that these calamities advance their will."

"The Seven will not win our battles for us, my lord. We must be the change we wish to see in these lands. If the gods are under attack we must be the ones who defend them. If the lords are unispired we must be the ones to inspire them. If the people are hurt and afraid, we must heal and comfort them."
"The sacrifces your family has had to make are not a grand plan of the Seven's design, they are the will of men. Men who have forsaken the love of the gods."

"Well I agree with you there Septon, men have surely forsaken the Seven's love, but could not these calamities serve as warning for those who fail to lead a life of purpose? When a lamb strays too far from the herd does the Shepard not strike the lamb to alter its purpose?"
"If we agree that man's devotion has been lacking would it not be reasonable to expect our devoted aspects to offer a quick slap to alter our own purpose and shape our behavior to one that is more pleasing?" Loren looked back to his years of mentorship under Septon Tomas and his words quickly returned to his tongue.

Lucas looked at Loren, his smile still in place. "Is that why you have come, Lord Irwyn, to convince the Faith that it needs to strike?" His tone is slightly curious and fatherly.

"Septon I do not profess to know what the faith should do," Loren said sheepishly, "I know that many of your ranks show a devotion that I could never hope to match," Loren stressed the word many to indicate that maybe not all men or ladies of faith could be counted in that group.
"Though I will say that it is clear to me that as a Kingdom the Faith has lost its influence with the Lords and the Common man, and that without faith we are destined for troubling times."

"Faith is a man's choice, my lord, if it wasn't there would be nothing notable in having it. My deepest desire is to see all men united together, revelling in the light of the Seven as brothers, but my greatest fear is for that come about through force and violence."
"These times are a test of all men's faith, those who prove themselves to be true will be awarded the peace and happiness they deserve in the heavens above. That will be the case no matter how few followers there are of the Faith."

Loren did not look so convinced, "Perhaps it is as you say though the church has in past times, been accused of enriching themselves while their followers suffered. . . High Septon Petar, may the Father bless his name, has done much to reform this notion. . . which my family finds commendable," Loren then realized that he had been preaching to a Septon and tries to get back on point.
"Even so, I am cautious when the majority calls us to bide our time when our enemies strength grows, I can assure you that the Cult of the Dead God is not passive and seeks to undermine the faith at every opportunity perverting Septs for their own isidious purposes."
Loren smiles, "I recall you mentioning earlier that the Seven does not fight our battles for us, and if the god's be under attack that we must be the ones to defend them?"
"While I do not intend for my words to be construed as advocating that we should ride forth and tear the North from their old gods at the point of the spear, nor wrest children from their homes and into the Septeries, I think it unwise for the Faith to remain a quiet player as its influence fades into obscurity."

Lucas wrinkled his nose but continued to smile. "A word of advice, my lord, it is considered bad form to use the former name of the High Septon."
"Yes, even the faith is not free of corruption, and the High Septon has helped greatly to deal with that problem, and through that he has helped us return to our place as the torch in the night that guides the way. Now we must make sure the torch stays lit, but we can not set the forest around us ablaze so that we can bask in its light."
"Do not think me so removed from the problems you speak of though, my lord, it is a subject of much debate within the Faith. But we were relegated to being an observer of events long ago, when the orders of the Sword and the Star were banned."
