"Well, if we find peace, we can discuss it again and perhaps some arrangement will suit us both. But now is not the time. There can be only one helmsman in a storm, and that is you." Francis bowed, took Lady Anne's hand, and walked out, Ser Torn following.

Captain Merick looks over young Ser Lorn, and seeing nothing amiss, says, "Aye, Lord Tarly will be with you in just a moment. Make yourself comfortable. Will you need accommodations for the evening? I can have them made up now if ya like."

"As you like ser." Merick says, and goes back to standing at the door.
(ooc: I recommend posting in the Yo Smith forum that you'd like to speak with Tarly at this thread)

A raven arrives bearing the seal of House Blackwood.
Dear Lord Regent Tarly, As you are aware Prince Andry has 15,000 men in King's Landing. We, the Riverlands, have 25,000 men and are preparing to attack him. However, we are cautious of the Dornish troops to the south. If they were to attack us from behind, we would be devastated. I implore you, place your troops north of the Prince's Pass! If the Dornish know there is an army opposing them, they will not dare to leave the Prince's Pass. I know you have the troops to oppose them, and all it would take is moving them. I am pleading, Lord Tarly, for you to support us. Would you oppose the Rightful King, Lord Regent, and Lord Hand?
Tytos Blackwood, Captain of the Guard

Ser Oliver speaks first.
"Lord Regent Tarly," he says, bowing, as way of greeting.
"I bring news of my journey to Storm's End, where I spoke with an advisor to Prince Andry Baratheon, the man presiding over Storm's End whilst his grace is in King's Landing - Ser Garth Horpe. I portrayed to him my belief of how things stand in the Far Reach at the moment, and our attitude towards Prince Andry and the potential future troubles facing our realm.
To be brief my lord, the door is open for an alliance should we be so inclined, and it is my belief that Prince Andry would heavily reward those who choose to side with him. I mentioned the Lords Redwyne and Florent - Ser Garth seemed to think their release would come as a matter of course.
It would also appear however that they understand why we would want to remain neutral in amongst everything. It would appear that we are in the position of power, for it is they who want to win our friendship."

Tarly nodded and then asked, "Those are the facts, and well done Bulwer. Now tell me truthfully. What would you do?"

Oliver looks taken aback.
"You ask me my lord? It's a complex question." He takes a second or two to think before responding.
"I'd say there are cases for both standing with or standing against Prince Andry. Andry holds King's Landing and the Iron throne, has the might of Storm's End and Dorne - and Braavos it would seem - behind him. He also holds the lords of both the Arbor and Brightwater Keep. If we were to believe that Andry were the most likely to succeed in any struggle for power, I believe the Far Reach could gain a great deal from siding with him - indeed, as things stand currently, the addition of our own army to those of Dorne and Storm's End could swing the balance massively in the prince's favour.
The reasons for fighting against Andry are just as numerous however. He is an unloved usurper. You will find few men in the Far Reach whom, given the choice would fight for this man. Pardon my crudity, but many would rather be repeatedly buggered by a dornishman's spear." Oliver chuckled, "Ironic, as that may be our fate if we decide to side against him." The smile was gone as quickly as it had arrived. "Whilst much of the realm remains neutral, it is hard to imagine many of the other regions siding with Andry. Many see him as the embodiment of a foreign invasion. Were we to side with Andry this week, we'd be three realms against two. By the same time next week, we may find that the rest of Westeros has declared for Piers Bettley and we are three armies against five or six.
We cannot remain neutral for much longer if we wish to avoid war coming to the Far Reach. It is too late. There is a Dornish army marching up the Prince's Pass. In my opinion, we either declare for Prince Andry now and pray to the seven that other regions may follow, or else we side with the Riverlands, with the Vale, and fight this foreign-financed troublemaker, and do what ultimately may be best for the realm, whatever the cost to the Far Reach."
There was a moment's silence. "I realise that I have not answered your question my lord. I cannot answer it. It is a choice between doing the right thing for Westeros at a great cost to ourselves, or potentially doing the right thing for the future of the Far Reach at a great cost to Westeros."

Tristeza arrived at the Lord Regent's solar accompanied both by her own Man and two of his. The first guard knocked solidly on the massive door, to announce her arrival.
