As Rhodri is gathering his knick-knacks and tapestries, Nehmen enters the Tower. "You want to speak with me before you leave."

"Yes, Maester Nehman. We have not been able to speak for some time. My daughter is safely in Braavos now, as you suggested."
"You may have already heard the tale from Horas...but I have not heard your reaction to what happened at in the Mountains of the Moon, with the warlocks. What do you know of them?"

"The Warlock was a mercenary from Quarth. And the Shamans were recruited from the North. But the man who was beheaded by your son is the real threat. They seek to bring on the Long Night." Nehmen looks concerned but confident.

"They are the same ones then who are a threat to my daughter?"

"Yes, I think they are. The long night can be ended by dragon fire. With no dragon blooded men or women there would be no dragons to save us." Nehmen looks back at Rhodri, "As you have seen your son is safe from direct attack, but he will be a target too, he is a threat to them. I would not send him away though."

"It is hard to keep him close. It is hard to make him -do- anything. But I will watch him best I can. Do you know something of warging, or skinchanging?"

"I know something. What do you wish to know?" Nehmen smiled to himself, "Your son has a strong mind Rhodri, that will protect him more then one thousand guards. Believe me when I say that."

"My boy used to care very little for my passions -- hunting, jousting. But of late he has shown a great enthusiasm for the hunt. Since I lost my hand I cannot hold a bow, so now I go falconing. He comes with me, and when I release the bird, Yohn goes mute. And the bird never comes back talons empty, not when Yohn is with me."
"Aranya hinted this may have something to do with skinchanging -- that somehow he's with the bird in spirit. I am a man of faith, and I worship the old gods -- I know legends of these skills. I know my son has strange dreams, like a melted mirror of the future. Could he also be somehow skinchanging with these birds? Is that something the Green Men might have taught them?"
OOC: I have been meaning to write up a story of the hunt for weeks now with Rhodri and Yohn as a skinchanging scenario. I just hadn't gotten around to it yet.

"Yes. He probably is." Nehmen studied Rhodri intently, "Why do you ask about this? I know you will accept it. It is a gift from your gods. Given to those with a calling, of course some times it is stolen from them. But that is not the case with Yohn."

"I just want to understand. I want to know that he is safe in doing this, that he will not somehow lose his soul."

OOC: Smith, you don't have to come up with a long explanation of skinchanging. It would be pointless -- GRRM hasn't published one yet. I just want it established that Rhodri learned something about it. OTOH, when Dance is finally published, the Prologue chapter is all about a skinchanger...

Nehmen explains a little about the art of skingchanging. Then looks at Rhodri to see if he has any more questions.

"Do you know if my wife is in danger? Does she carry the same spark of fire as my daughter?"

Nehmen looks at Rhodri, "I do not know. What would you do if she was?"

Rhodri pauses. "Protect her. Somehow. As I did with Saella."
