"We shall discuss it on the morrow," he said. "Did you bring your own hawks? If not you're welcome to borrow one of my hawks from the mews, though I know the value of having your own."

Gareth made a disgusted sound both at his brother and the Lannister girl.
He turned to Lord Bayard. "My lord, you said you had a wish to visit the Citadel. I would be honored to accompany you and show you around. It is a place I have frequented often."

"I'll need my falconer to check your skills before I let you loose with one of my prized falcons," Gwayne warned. "But I have no objection provided you are as skilled as you claim. I have a few that will be suited to a lady's hand."

"Your blood and your name proclaims you a lady, and thus I must treat you according," Gwayne replied. "Besides, you might not be strong enough for the largest birds, and I cannot in good conscience allow harm to come to you under my roof."

"My brother is prickly by nature, but he means you no harm," he said. "Though from what I heard, you did rather provoke him." He laughed a little. "I suspect my brother is not much accustomed to women such as yourself, much less when the lady in question is a young maiden."

"I am never bored in places of learning and wisdom, my lord." replied Gareth. "Indeed I spent some considerable time at the Citadel when I was younger." He absently mindedly fingered the iron link that he always wore below his shirt.

"Yes. It would be difficult not to. If I let you borrow one of my hawks, will you at least do me the courtesy of refraining from further argument with my brother? I owe him that, at least. He is a brave and loyal man, though his temper oft gets the better of him," he said.

"Considering that your brother seems to be the person who starts arguments, my lord, the only way I can make this promise is by promising to never speak to him," Sansa said, a little teasingly. "Not a difficult promise to make." "You must do as you see fit, as long as the courtesies are observed," he remarked. "But I am sure my lady knows that many men believe a woman should defer to men in all things."

"Ah yes. Well, you are still very young and my brother is a man grown. No doubt he thought you impertinent. But it is not my place to scold you, so I shall not. No doubt your grandmother shall attend to that task later," he said with a grin. "But I do not believe any of my sisters would have shown your boldness to a man ten or more years their senior."

"Not on my lands," he replied, laughing. "I'll not have it said that I allowed my sisters to become unruly. One is wed, another about to be so. I fear their husbands would hate me if I let you influence them."

Indeed they have recently been very helpful in some recent endeavours of mine that I hope will reap extensive rewards one day."

I fear their husbands would hate me if I let you influence them." "Everyone says that," Sansa sighed. "Mother says I should have been borne in Sunspear." "Perhaps you should have, but it is easy to say what should have happened. My cousin should have been a septon, perhaps. You might have known him a little, Leyton Hightower? He squired for your father."
