The Hightower's Great Hall
A high ceilinged room where the Hightowers often dine with their household. Entertainments are often to be had, usually bards, dancers or fools.

Karys stood in the shadows at the end of the hall in the garb of a server. Feasts were often the perfect occasion to gather information, and the great men of the realm were not always cautious with their tongues around servants.

Lord Bayard and his considerable entourage arrive, among them his niece (and one of the brides) Lady Jennalynn, and half a dozen knights looking for glory in the tournament. Bayard bows respectfully to his host as an equal. "My Lord Hightower. Your hospitality is enviable."

After whispering urgently into his brother's ear for a few seconds, Gareth stood behind Gwayne as the Lord of the Far Reach received his guests. He caught Jennalynn's eye and gave her a quick wink and a sardonic smile.

"You are most welcome, Lord Royce," said Gwayne to Bayard. "And Lady Jennalyn and your companions also."
He listened to Gareth and gave the barest nod of acknowledgement, but that was all.
"Please, I hope you will all be seated. The best vintage shall be served to you all."

Lady Jennalynn returned Ser Gareth's smile as their eyes met briefly, noticing that Ser Gareth's smile didn't hold its usual feeling, but that was understandable considering the insult he had just been handed by the Lord Commander of the Queensguard. She curtsied before her future husband and Lord Gwayne when the latter mentioned her name. She then waited for her uncle to take a seat before taking one herself next to him.

Lord Royce is ushered to his seat and sits down. "Shall the tournament consist of just the joust?" Bayard asks conversationally, feeling for his goblet, "Or will there be other events as well?"

"No," said Gwayne. "Though certainly the joust is to be the main event. If we have sufficient participants after the confusion with the North, I have also scheduled a melee in which each of the Seven Kingdoms is invited to fight with a team of seven warriors, an archery contest and a single combat with swords."

"No doubt it will be a splendid event," Bayard says. "The situation with the North has raised everyone's hackles, it seems. Hopefully we shall be able to put it behind us."

"Yes, I hope so. You did well to offer the Manderlys support and protection, Lord Bayard. I am sure they are most grateful. And no doubt your coffers will appreciate the gesture as well. Though I have to wonder how Stark took that news? I'll wager he wasn't best pleased to lose his city."

"I spoke with Lord Stark in privacy after the event. I am content he will keep his peace," Bayard answers.

"That is good to know."
Yet Gwayne wondered about his cousin Leyton, whose quest now seemed a fool's errand. That bothered him. He'd never really wanted Leyton to go, and would have liked to see his cousin compete in the tournament, yet it was done now.
"A war would have benefitted none of us. Are any of your new friends the Manderlys likely to join us here?"

Edric entered the hall with most of the queen's noble entourage and went over to his half-sister to exchange a few words before finding his seat at the high table. While eternally grateful to Dacey for coming all the way south to reunite him with his direwolf, Edric was somewhat wary of having to look after people in his current hostage situation; as if the Ryswell girl was not enough.
