"Let us hope Lord Stark shows sense," Gwayne replied. "But nonetheless, I should like a private word with my queen if I may. And before I go to Oldtown. I did not wish to break up the dinner party, which is why I suggested tomorrow, but tonight will serve if my queen is willing?" He looked hopefully at Rose.

Rose looked Gwayne, and then at Mace, and then she turned back to Gwayne, "If you wish." She stood slowly.

He led her into the next room, a small, comfortable solar, and shut the door behind them.
"Your Grace seems troubled?" He asked. "I hope it is not my doing. I so wanted you to be comfortable in my home."

Rose replied, "It is a nice home. I am not judging it."

Gareth raised an eyebrow as Gwayne left his guests to talk with the Queen privately.
"It appears our company leaves much to be desired." he said to his sister, a slight frown appearing on his face. He jerked a thumb at the closed solar door impatiently. "What's he doing in there?"

Izzy shrugged. "I wish I knew. This whole thing came as a surprise to me too, but I am sure Gwayne knows what he is doing."
Meanwhile, Gwayne took the queen's hand in gentle fingers and kissed them. "Your Grace must have noticed that I hold her in high esteem. I know I should wait, but I knew that if I waited too long, some other man will swoop in and steal your heart, or else your grandsire might advise you to choose elsewhere. So...I ask, will Your Grace do me the honour of becoming my wife?"

Rose studied him in shock. "I can not answer your question yet. I need time to think on it."

Gwayne lowered his eyes in disappointment. "I'm sorry, Your Grace. I did not mean to push you. But I was worried about losing you if I did not act fast. I can wait, of course." Though he said it reluctantly.
He sighed a little.
"May I assure Your Grace that I would be as good a husband as I can be, if I were chosen? I wish only to love and protect you, and offer such counsel as Your Grace is willing to hear from me."

Rose replied, "Gwayne every eligible lord is saying the exact same words, and applying the exact same pressures you are. I really do not know where to turn." She started moving toward the door back to the dining hall.

He winced at that announcement and stood aside so she could precede him back to the dining room.
"I do not mean to pressure you," he whispered. "I wish I might prove my love in some way. But it is not for me to say what is an appropriate measure of my affection. Only the lady can decide that."

Rose said, "I think if you new me well enough to love me you would be able to figure that out." She entered the dining hall and looked at her Uncle Mace.
Mace stood immediately, "It is time for us to leave I am afraid."

Gwayne frowned. "Will you not at least stay for the sweets? We've so much food. I don't want to drive away my guests."
He thought that he hadn't exactly been given enough time to prove himself to the queen yet.
"If you really must go, Your Grace, at least tell me what I must do to win your love. I've not had the time to know your desire."

Mace replied as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "Her stomach is not feeling well again. Sweets would only curdle it."

"Unfortunate," Gwayne sighed. "I hope she will be feeling better soon. I know you will take good care of he, Ser Mace. I am only sorry if I have given offence."

Mace motioned for the guard to lead her away. A King's Guard escorted her from the room. Mace moved up to Gwayne and offered him his own hand. He spoke loudly enough for the room to hear, "There is no offense do not worry." Then he leaned forward and whispered only to Gwayne, "Act a man. Not a boy desperate for love. It will work far better then your current course."
