"But you have a more fitting price in mind?"

Manderly leaned back in his seat, and thought a long time. He leaned forward and cupped his chin in his hand. He stared at the sword. "Do you have another Valyrian steel sword roughly this size and shape?" He held out his hands on either side of ice.

Eirek sighed. He had worried that the proud lord would prove unreasonable. "I do not, as you well know."

Manderly thought a moment and then added, "How could I possibly give up my family's blade with out looking a fool the rest of my life?"

"How long has House Manderly held Ice?" Eirek asked, knowing full well what the answer was.

"Is your point going to be how much longer your house held it then mine?" Manderly asked, "I will admit that. But it was not stolen it was lost, and then given by the crown."

"As was dominion over the North. When the Starks returned to power, Ice should have been restored to us. But your niggardly ancestors would not do what was right." Eirek rose from his seat. "Lord Manderly, I thank you for your hospitality. Alas, my family and I will be leaving your city. Remember that it was I who came to you seeking friendship. But I see now that it is not in your character."
Eirek turned and left the room, seething.

There was more laughing as he left.

///////
Ser Leyton Hightower arrived at the court of Lord Manderly. He was garbed in the colors of House Hightower, and it's sigil covered his chest. He entered the court and scanned around, taking stock of his surroundings and looking about curiously to see if any other nobles had answered the High Septon's call.
(OOC: Sorry for my absence, I've been super busy lately. If anyone wants to play an NPC that would be most welcome.)

While there were few nobles as devout as Leyton, he did see quite a few septons in evidence. One man, who was brawny enough to have been a knight in a former life, beckoned to the young knight.
"Greetings, ser. Did you come at the High Septon's command? I brought a group of the Faithful, septons and sparrows all."

"Greetings, ser. Did you come at the High Septon's command? I brought a group of the Faithful, septons and sparrows all." Leyton made his way over to the group, head held high. He bowed deferentially before replying. "Indeed, I am Ser Leyton Hightower. I am sorry to see that more who are not servants of the faith failed to answer the call, no disrespect to yourself or your sparrows intended. But the meager gathering of nobility poses worrying questions about the state of the faith in the hearts of many throughout the kingdom. I pray that our successes in the field will soon draw more to our cause. Do you know who commands the forces of the faith presently? I have only just arrived, what do you know of the conflict that I might be ignorant of?"

"We have no commander," the septon replied with a sigh. "I had hoped his High Holiness might send one of the Most Devout to lead us, alongside a most noble and pious knight or lord. But none such have appeared. I was a knight myself. Once. I suppose I am as much a leader as we have at present. But there has been no word from the capital." He frowned. "I fear we have been near forgotten about. The lords sitting in their castles likely do not care about matters of faith."

Leyton paused, his brow wrinkling as he thought. "Perhaps I can be of assistance; I fought in the Stepstones alongside Lord Aurane Lannister. There I learned much about war under his tutelage. You say you are the effective commander currently? What strength would you estimate our forces at?"

"Truth be told, it doesn't look good," the knight-turned-septon sighed. "My own band is near fifty strong and there's a few others milling around with little bands of a dozen or a score of men, and one or two came themselves or in pairs. But we can't be more than a couple of hundred, all told. It's as I said, there are few who care about defending the Faith."
He paused, looked Leyton over. "You look young, barely more than a squire. Might I know your name?"

I am Ser Leyton Hightower, cousin to Lord Gwayne of the Hightower." (OOC: I answered that four posts above, but we'll pretend he didn't hear. )
