Maerys's side of the room contains his armor, sword and a chest at the foot of his bed.

A knock comes on the door. Mariya waits outside, hoping Finn was there.

Finn opened the door, "Hello," He said, seeing Mariya on the other side, "How do you do? Won't you come in?"

"Thank you."
She entered the room, obviously troubled.
"I'm fine, Finn. I just wanted to talk, you know? Because you and I are in the same situation, I suppose. I always pretend to everyone that I don't care, but I thought maybe you'd understand."

Finn nodded sagely, "Yes exactly," he agreed, "What situation are we in?" he asked. "And what are we pretending not to care about?"

"Oh. Well, because both our fathers were traitors and all that. Some of these others, I don't think they understand. I have to act like it doesn't bother me, and that I don't care that I've lived here my whole life."
She sighed a little.
"But it does. Do you ever think about your home, Finn?"

"What home?" Finn replied. The ancient and venerable keep of Stoatheart had been torn to the ground and the stones scattered upon his father's failed rebellion. "There is nothing but pasture there now." He said. "But yes I take your meaning. It seems that some of us fosterlings do not feel the leash so keenly as others."

"Exactly. Some of them think they can do as they please and not care about others, I believe. It's sad about your home, though. I'm sorry. I forgot you couldn't go anywhere else. Does it bother you?"

"Well, why should it bother me?" Finn replied, "It was done when I was very little. At the moment at least there is very little I can do about it. At least my family still has the lands. So perhaps they can rebuild some day. In any case, that'll be for my brother to say." Finn shrugged.

"Of course it should bother you. They'll say your name is tainted, horrid things like that. The same as they'll say about mine. But where is your brother, then? If there's no castle, he must have some place else to live."

Finn nodded, "He lives in Oldtown, barely goes to visit the land, except to collect his due to keep himself comfortable in that room where he boards. We do not speak much," Finn confessed, "And yourself? Has one of the other children been giving you trouble?"

"Not recently, but I've always felt conscious that I'm a traitor's whelp," Mariya admitted. "And since the rooms were last reassigned, I've had to share with Lynesse and I know she doesn't like me."

"Why doesn't she like you?" Finn asked.

"I don't know. I've never done anything to harm her."
She started pacing around the room, as she always did when she was agitated.
"I don't think it's even that her gods are different from ours. I think she just doesn't like me. Because I'm not good at flirting and wearing gossiping and silly things like that. You know I never go about with her and Sapphire."

"Oh yes," Finn replied, "Well you have your own talents that are nothing to sneeze at, they're just different."
