"Start a Order of Warrior Women than," Finn said, with a chuckle, "Battle Septas."

Her eyes gleamed.
"I want to. I've thought about it, so many times. But I need someone to support me first. Someone who can buy me a suit of armour and a horse big enough to cope with armour, and provide accommodation and help me recruit other women. But I don't think Lord Hightower would help," she sighed. "And the High Septon would probably just laugh."

Finn laughed, "Sorry Mariya. It's not funny. If I had the money I would support you." he said.

"That's good of you," she said, wondering if he meant it, or was merely humouring her. "But yes, I need to find someone to help. Perhaps...do you think the Dornish might? They have warrior women, don't they?"

"I doubt they'd be interested in helping," Finn replied. "Although Knights of Nymeria has a nice ring to it," He laughed. "You could take up a collection from among widowed Ladies who rule their late husband's lands, and the like. The sort of women who have coin, and might feel like making a donation."

"Yes, perhaps I could," she agreed. "But I still need a patron. Or patroness. I would need to have some backing before I asked those other women, I think."

"Nonsense," Finn replied, "you need only let each woman think that the other is a most generous patron, and that the should do likewise."

"Perhaps," she said, unconvinced. "I'm not sure where to start though. We've been kept away from other people all our lives. Perhaps Lady Isolvelle would help, but I barely know her. And I don't know anybody outside of Kings Landing at all. I daren't ask Sapphire."
She sighed.
"Perhaps it is a fool's errand but I'll never be happy until a try."

"NO you daren't," Finn replied, "But Lady Hightower might not be bad. She seemed nice enough when I spoke to her. It might amuse her to help a girl follow her dream."

"Perhaps. I liked her too, when we spoke, but it was only once," Mariya sighed. "But I will try her first. Do you think, if we go to Kings Landing, there might be someone there? I wouldn't wish to make things difficult for you, of course, but perhaps there will be more ladies in the capital."

Finn shrugged, "I can scarcely complain. I half suggested it." he replied. "Although for a sworn br...err. sisterhood, aren't they obligated to take vows of chastity?"

"Er...yes. That's common. The Night's Watch, the Kingsguard, the Warrior's Sons. The Citadel. Septas and septons. That seems to be the case, but..."
She lowered her gaze in embarrassment, her cheeks flushing.
"I would not wish to be unfair to you. Nor would I wish to deny women the chance to help me if their circumstances prevented them. Married women, I mean. So...perhaps the rules could be different. Because there aren't any women knights or anything, and I'd wish all women to be able to join if they wish, even if they can't fight."

Finn frowned, "Well that's something to consider. I mean if a woman is spending three-quarters of the year laying in before her birth, she's scarcely standing watch with shield and spear defending the honor of her sisters." He pointed out. "Maybe if you had sworn a vow not to marry Lord Hightower would be persuaded to put off wedding us. Not that I'm trying to get out of it or anything" he frowned, "But I'm thinking practically, in terms of what your dream is."

Mariya nodded.
"So I was thinking there would be like two tiers of the order. The most dedicated - and probably most of the warriors - could swear the vow of chastity and the others could give what time they had, especially if they aren't warriors and want to help in other ways."
She tapped her sword thoughtfully on the ground.
"Oh. Um...maybe you're right," she said. "It might be best but I don't want to offend Lord Hightower if he thinks we should be married. I might need his help one day. So might you. I was thinking...both of us are protected from unwanted attention if we allow Lord Hightower to consider us betrothed for now. We could say we're not ready to marry yet. Then when we're in a better position, when you're high in Lord Hightower's favour, and I'm ready to begin the order, we say we've changed our mind. Then we can formally end the betrothal and honour will be satisfied all round."

"That's alright," Finn agreed, "Called the fighting women Sisters, and the second tier Matrons. And the Matrons can be married women donating time or coin, or they could be widows and such, who are beyond fighting age. And when a woman is too old to fight. Or is ready to marry and have a child, she can leave the Sisters and become a Matron." Finn clapped his hands, as if knocking off dirt after a difficult job done, "And there you have it."
