Finn rolled his eyes, "I'm not much good, but I'll try." he picked up a sword and held it awkwardly.

"You're holding it too much like a dagger," she said. "Here. let me show you."
She moved closer and moved his hand on the hilt so that he was holding it properly.
"That's better. Now try to strike eme."
She moved back a few feet and waited.

Dunnock rushes Maerys, raising his shield to catch the first heavy stroke of the blunted greatsword. Then Keath is on him, swinging hard enough to raise bruises even through the chain hauberk. After several furious blows he checks Dayne with his shield and knocks him to the dirt.
"Surrender?" Dunnock asks, looming over him, axe in his hand and a rage in his eyes.

Dunnock eyes the hand suspiciously. But if the other boy meant to pull him down, he would just hit him in the face with the shield again. He shakes the offered hand guardedly.
"You need to move your feet more," Dunnock grunts. "You don't have a shield to block and you're not big enough to stand your ground."

Mariya parried easily, but she did it slowly, with a light tap. "Try again," she said. "How does the sword feel in your hand?"

"I suppose it would if you're used to small blades."
She parried again.
"You're holding it fairly well though."

"It's slow," Finn added, "And heavy."

"It's supposed to be. A heavy sword makes the wielder stronger. A real sword needs to be heavy to pierce armour."

Dunnock grunts in response and looks to Ser Derek. "Do you want me to hit him again, Ser?"

Finn shook his head, "it's not the weight that pierces," He said firmly. He stood and swung the blade, and grimaced. "Inelegant." he said.

Dunnock grunts in response and looks to Ser Derek. "Do you want me to hit him again, Ser?" "That is good enough. I got a good sense of your skill." Derek walked up and said, "Maerys how many times have i told you to watch that."
