He looked up at her, taken aback. AFter amoment his shock was replaced by a swift smile.
"My thanks, lady."
He got to his feet, rising with easy grace, and bowed to her.
"My hame is Triston Toland. At your service, my lady."

"It is a pleasure, Ser. I am Myranda Allyrion of Godsgrace." she said, with a curtsey, "I must confess myself surprised, I always thought young, gallant men like you had no passion for anything except swords and spears. My brother doesn't." she said, the last sentence with great distaste.

He grinned and cradled his harp to his chest so as not to damage it.
"Oh? I'm fond of weapons, my lady, but I also enjoy music. When a man spends as much time on the training field as we are expected to do, I find that music is a welcome change. It soothes the heart and keeps the fingers nimble."

"Why does a warrior need nimble fingers?" She asked, grinning and sitting down next to her, her skirts fanning out around her.

"They help him hold his blade or spear better, of course. It's good to have a strng grip on your weapon but it needs to be flexible too. You don't hold a spear like you're clinging to it for life. But I'm sure you don't want to talk of weapons, Lady Myranda."

"On the contrary, I find it all fascinating. You should spar with my brother sometime, he thinks himself quite accomplished, but perhaps you could knock some sense into his reckless head," she said, scowling.

Triston smiled. His was no mocking smile but nor was it indulgent. He smiled because he was amused, no more.
"I could try, certainly, if it will please you. But why does he need sense knocked into his head, if I may ask?"

"He wishes to fight in the upcoming tourney, and thinks he can go up against the best Knights in Westeros, and he gets angry with me when I doubt it." She said, scowling, Myranda knew her brother was good, but she just didn't want to see him getting hurt. "I am sorry, you do not need to fight him, I am just being silly, he can do as he likes."

"Oh, I don't mind sparring with him if he'd wish it," he said. "And your fears are justified, I think. Your brother is close to your own age?"

"he is less than twenty minutes younger than I am." she said, frowning but then smiled, "He can do as he likes now. Are deaths at Tourney's common?"

"Not common, I'd say, but they do happen. I won't pretend otherwise. So you are both young, then I think it is alright for you to be worried about your brother. You've not had the time to get accustomed to the danger he may face," Triston murmured.

"You don't understand..." she said, eyes looking a bit pained. This was the most open she had been with anyone since coming to Sunspear, "We're two halves... if he dies, half of me dies with him... We're not meant to ever be apart, let alone permanently separated. He knows this, but apparently glory and honours are more important to him than us."

He knew she was right. He din't understand. He had no twin and though he was fond of his siblings, his relationship with them wasn't as close as that.
"I won't pretend I understand, but I do feel for you. But your brother has been raised to beliebe that competing in the tourney field is his right and his duty, am I right?"

"He was raised to be a warrior, and to fight to protect our lands and our family," she said, glaring distastefully at the ground, "fighting in a tourney does nothing except inflate his ego," she said harshly, and shook her head.
"I am sorry, I suppose it is somethng I can never understand myself."

"I suppose not. My own sister does but she is an archer herself and if she attends the tourney she's sure to enter the archery contest. Which is much less dangerous but...you know what I mean. I'm afraid, Lady Myranda, that the customs will not change now. I don;t know how you would persuade your brother not to take part. It's not something i have ever tried to do myself. Does that mean you will not attend the tourney then?"
