"I shan't want to give up my lands, he, I would assume would not want to give up his, and we can hardly produce many children living away." She said, grinning, "You haven't seen any handsome young lords around though have you? I could be tempted to change my mind."

"Well then you must wed an heir, of course, and have lots of babies with him before he leaves to lord over his own land," she said, laughing. "That seems ideal. You can enjoy him now, and then be rid of him when he is fat and old and boring."

Myranda laughed at that, "Yes, no doubt after we have had enough children to keep both lands going, it shall be me who is fat and boring and he shall be congratulating himself on his lucky escape. Do you know of any young, handsome, available and... energetic heirs then?"

"Well, there is my brother, Anders," Elara said, rolling her eyes. "He should be coming soon with my lord father, but he is so terribly boring. A soldier and general to the heart, made of hard steel. Gulian, my other brother is much more chivalrous and charming, though he is in the king's city for the past several years at court. My youngest brother Quenlyn..." she thought for a moment, "to tell it true, I don't know where he is. He always had his head in big tomes, I suspect he simply found one too big for him and fell into it and couldn't get out." She shrugged.
"Tell me of your brother, is he handsome?" she asked, brushing a hand through her thick, dark hair.

"You have plenty of brother." she said, laughing, thinking of her measly two. "I think Marq is, yes, as far as a sister can at least. We have a lot of the same features, we got them from our father, but he is a fair bit taller than I am, and has a stronger jaw. Blond." she said, grinning and leaning back a bit more. "He still looks a bit young I think, his face is taking time to mature... though, maybe mine is too."

She smiled, then leaned in and whispered privately, "well I do like them young," before pulling back and laughing with her hand at her mouth.
She looked over to Eleyna, who wasn't speaking, "cousin, did Emelia carry your tongue off with her? You'd best be careful what she does with that."

Eleyna turned and grinned.
"Forgive me, I was enjoying a chance to sit and listen to the two of you. The princess does not have my tongue, I'm happy to report, nor shall she ever. As she well knows. I must save it in case I choose to wed again. My mother would like me to, I know, but I've yet to find a man I like."

"Well I am much like our Myra here, I have many years left to push a mewling babe out, I won't want to be married for a while, I should think. Though I know my lord father only awaits on a suitable arrangement to marry me off."

Myranda laughed at what Elara said goodnaturedly as she said it and smiled, but as soon as the other looked away the look in her eyes dulled considerably, going to be more neutral, she turned her head to look up at the sky, so neither of them would turn and see.
"I should think any father would," she contributed, "Maybe he already as someone in mind."

She frowned, "maybe he does, my father is a secretive sort, who knows what he's thinking?"

"You'd best hope a match is not foisted upon you all of a sudden, cousin," Eleyna said. "There's a lot to be said for marrying someone you care for, believe me."

"I'm sure there is, and there's plenty of time for it too."

"Oh, of course, but your family will doubtless think differently to you. Don't let them marry you before you're ready. Choose your own husband if you can," Eleyna advised. "Not everyone is able to do that, I know, but if you can, it's worth it."

//////////////
Some days later, a young man sat alone in the garden. He was handsome with dark, curling hair and a fine-fenatured face. He was dressed as a warrior but he sat alone strumming a harp. He plaeyd well and the melody was recognisable as an ancient ballad.

Myranda was walking round, once again without her brother, people will start thinking the rumours of how inseparable they were a complete myth, and heard music coming from somewhere. It was well played and she followed the sound to a young man, sitting with his back to her.
She approached him silently, smirking at sat down just behind him, waiting for him to finish.
"You play beautifully."
