The Open Wound belongs to the most vicious of Lord Harlaw's captains, Rodrik the Bloody who killed his wife for her adultery, and then killed her family for good measure. It hosts a company of fierce raiders, who are among the most skilled at what they do among all the ships in the Iron Islands.

The Open Wound sails the Sunset Sea off the Western coast, its normal company of raiders on board and itching for a fight. The captain scans the horizons in every direction, searching for fat merchant ships or other easy pickings. It had been too long since he'd been reaving, and had almost run through the plunder taken from his last voyage.

Off the wester coast he spots a single galley traveling south in coastal waters.

Rodrik looks in the direction that his shouting lookout indicated, and saw the galley off their port side heading south. He quickly gave the order to pursue it, flying his banner of a blood-soaked axe on a black field proudly above the main sail. The raiders readied themselves for action, waiting for the inevitable boarding.

The Galley spots the Reaver ship, and immediately turns toward the coast. As it comes close to shore, a small dingy is dropped over the side, and two men begin rowing north, while the galley continues in a south easterly direction.

Rodrick ignores the pair of men in the dingy, for his men had no bows, and a life-boat was no prize. They pursued the galley with all speed.

The Galley accepts that they can not flee the iron born. They turn and make directly for land, heading for an isolated beach.

Rodrik angles his ship to intercept them before they make landfall, his men applying whips to thralls who are not rowing hard enough.

In the shallows just shy of the coast, the Open Wound catches its prey.

Lacking archers, the captain expertly guides his ship alongside his prey, so that the raiders on board can throw over thick heavy ropes with stout iron hooks at the end, to draw the ships together and bind them close enough that the boarders can move across.

The other ship puts up a resistance all the more fierce because they fight Ironborn, but in the end it means nothing. The Ironborn capture the ship, and half the crew.

Rodrik sends a few men to inventory the ship's cargo, if any, and he inspects the prisoners who are all made to kneel in a line on the deck.

The ship was shiping lumber from Lannisport to Sunspear. All the men are found and forced to kneel in a line. Three are too wounded to live much past a day or two.

"This lumber will go to good use lads, my lord will be right pleased," he said, before turning to look at one of his men. "Erik, you can have the ship, my lads will take the cargo aboard the Wound. Throw the crew into the sea, or cut their kill 'em as you like."

The men move as commanded by their captain, and soon there are the splashes of eightteen men hitting the sea. Erik moves to take over the helm.
