She thought she'd misheeard. There was no way Daemon could say that to his own mother. Milo msut be mistaken.
"I don't think that's quite right," she said. "You must have been given the wrong message, Milo."

Milo shook his head, "That is the message, you are banished. Are you really that surprised?"

She was, as it happened. There was no way Daemon could have known how tempted she had been to rise against him.
"Of course I am. The king is my son, blood of my blood and flesh of my flesh. I hoped he might have some small regard for me deep in his soul."

"He feels you can not accept what he has done. And since you are a good woman with conscience, you will act against him even if that is unwise, and foolish." Milo replied.

She sat quietly, unable to deny that had been a possibility.
"So what will he have me do? Will he not at least come to bid me farewell?"

Milo shook his head, "He does not think the last meeting went very well."

"Nor did it, but he is still my son and I his mother. That was just one meeting. Emotions ran high."

"You have admitted that he is probably right Rhae. I think it better for you to leave." Milo said quietly.

She felt as if the world had been pulled out f rom underneath her.
"Does my son not care where I go or what I do, and how? I've little of my own now, you know that, Milo. Everything I had was given to one or other of my children."

Milo took a parchment out of his pouch and handed it to her, "Three letters from the King that will give you enough gold to live your life out in comfort in any of the Free Cities."

She looked at the letters. The y seemed to be in order. She knew she had to tell Milo the truth, however, as she had one question left.
"What about my husband? He is in the service of the Crown. Is he to be banished also?"
It would be too cruel if Richard were allowed home and she not.

Milo sighed, "He is not."

Rhaenys looked at Milo with a tragic expression.
"Then what is to happen? I cannot be separated from my husband all the time. That is not fair on either one of us, and besides, I think I've earned the right to some peace at this time in my life."

"Richard has spent more time in the free cities then Westeros in the last twenty years. I do not think he will stay here now." Milo replied, "You will not be alone I think."

"Oh, I know he would not leave me, but I hope Daemon doesn't expect to have Richard at his beck and call now. If I'm banished from the realm and therefore have no ties with my own blood, I'll be damned if I let my own husband run around at my son's bidding."
