Joanna winced and squeezed Mari's hand in sympathy. She barely remembered her father but she knew she had been afraid of him.
"mari, I'm so sorry this has happened to you. It shouldn't have. You're right, you are the one who deserved it least of us all. I wish I knew what to do."
