"Sometimes it is good to live with what one knows." Daeron replied, having his glass refilled. "I hear that there is some... unfortunate business going on at Blackhaven."

"Apparently there's been plague circulating at the castle for some time, now," Steffon said nodding. "My letters to Ser Warren have gone unanswered, I've meant to apologize to him, since the King essentially stripped him of a lordship when pardoning Tybolt, who also ignores my letters and my summons."

"Hmmm... people can be so unreliable." Daeron agreed. "Have you considered going there yourself and having a look?"

"Yes. I have some desire to compete in the tourney, but since I have arrived at court nothing I have seen or heard makes me want to stay much longer. I may not even be able to fight in the tourney," he added bitterly, rubbing his knee. "Although I am interested to participate in Lord Conwell's other events that are more unique."

"Oh yes, some of these events are rather interesting." Daeron said with a nod. "I shall stick around with court for a while, see how everyone feels about... certain things. And then... well, then I have to make my decision."

"'Certain things?' What do you mean?" Steffon asked curiously.

"I am just gauging whether I want to remain in Westeros or take a relaxing holiday to the Free Cities." Daeron answered, finishing his tankard.

"It is something of a war-zone over there, Daeron, it hardly sounds like a relaxing holiday, although I will agree that it does seem preferable to take a sojourn across the sea for a while. I do not doubt that the Dornish would take advantage of such an absence, however, so I fear my options are a little lesser than yours." Steffon stood, and wobbled slightly. "I am drunker than I thought," he added.

Daeron smiled. "As long as I am far away from these proceedings I do not mind what awaits me. A little fighting can't be bad, as long as it isn't against relatives."

"That is certainly true. I would not at all relish to face kin across the battlefield, and I fear that is the road that Joanna is leading the realm down."

"I do hope you are not laying all the blame at her feet." Daeron said, a warning note in his voice. "After all, these are Daemon's perversions too."

"Aye, but it is not so easy to lay the blame at the feet of a man who commands three dragons as well as a Kingdom. Besides, I always understood Joanna to have the same stance on incest as our mother tried so hard to impart. The King desires her, surely, but she is perfectly capable of saying no but instead she has chosen to essentially tear the court apart. Or so it seems to me, at least, perhaps I do not have all the facts of the matter," Steffon added.

"I do not think anyone knows the whole story, bar Daemon and Joanna." Daeron replied off handedly. "I'd rather not know all of it anyhow. The little I have to do with it the better."

"Aye, I suppose. I cannot believe that the High Septon is allowing this farce of a wedding to happen, but I suppose Daemon has leaned on the faith to force their hand," Steffon replied dourly.

"The stairs at the Red Keep can be very slippery." Daeron agreed. "So far our dear brother has been careful not to shoot himself in the foot. Or so it seems."
