Aalina laughed and clapped.
"Is that all you do?" She asked jokingly.

"Is that a challenge, Aalina?"

That made her smile. "Jon, am I really supposed to believe nthing good will ever happen to you if I am not beside you?" "It's been proven true so far," Jon said, "I know you could have chosen to marry anyone you wanted Joanna. And you married me. So that must mean something."

"Is that a challenge, Aalina?" "I wouldnt dream of ever challenging one such as yourself." Aalina said, her face perfectly straight.

He passes one torch to his left hand, keeping two in his right. "Then watch." The bard closes his eyes and begins juggling, neatly tossing the blazing torches up in the air from one hand to the next, two passing each other in the air, the flames intertwining in a field of deadly beauty.

He throws one up in a double spin, catching it and continuing the pattern. "Years of practice. You learn quickly after getting burned four or five times."

"I can imagine." Aalina said, watching him silently for a while. "Where did you learn to do this?"

"'Helm' taught me everything I know." He catches the last torch in his left hand, another one already in it. He blows out the torch in his right hand, drops it, and proceeds to do the same with the other two. His face fades into the blackness as the last flame goes out. "Any other talents you would like to see me demonstrate?"

["It's been proven true so far," Jon said, "I know you could have chosen to marry anyone you wanted Joanna. And you married me. So that must mean something." She kissed him with a hint of passion. "Jon, you're so sweet and any fool can see you love me. I think that's why I married you over other men. I love being at Court but there are times when even I long for more straightforward dealings such as I get with you. We can be ourselves when we are together and not have to wear a mask."

"I suppose not," she admitted. "Not everyone can be their true self all the time though. That is the nature of the court. Maybe it's different for you since you're not really interested in it."

Jon nodded, "Truer words were never spoken," he chuckled.

"That life is part of me, though. I have pledged to stay here awhile but I hope you understand that I cannot turn my back on where I came from."

Jon sniffed, but just hugged his wife rather than answer.
