"Joanna. We will do as he says." Aalina said, showing some of Gen's spirit in her words. "If we dont it would be worse, for us and the girls."
She glanced behind her at the three of them.

"You won't be so condifent if he wants what I think he may want," Joanna said onimously. "Bastards. What harm did we ever do them?"

"Of course I know what you think. I am not stupid Joanna. I may be more like a greenlander but I am still and Ironborn. I know what happens. If you hadnt have said anything to him then the girls wouldnt have seen their mother lying unconcious on the ground. Anyway, you are tied loosly. Try and get away."

"I thought I could try to persuade him to let us go," Joanna said. "That's why I protested at our captivity."
She attempted to loosen her bonds but couldn't quite manage it while they were being pulled along by their wrists and had to keep up with the horse.

"Well it got us in the same place. If I hadnt had played along then the girls would have seen both of us like that,"

"I suppose so. I did only what I thought was best," Joanna grumbled. "Surely trying something is better than trying nothing."

"It depends when!" She said. "There is a time to stand up for yourself and a time to let it just drop!"

"That's easy for you to say, you were not raised as Blood of the Dragon. We have certain expectations of life and they don't include events such as this. I am the king's own sister. I should not have to abase myself before clansmen."

"Easy?" Aalina said. "Easy?? I have lived my life doing as I have been told, who knows more about when it is a good time to raise an arguement or not? How do you think that I get on doing what I do? I like this no more then you, but if we fight this we die. I would rather those girls are orphans like me."

"I don't want that either," Joanna said unhappily. "But it galls me to accept this. I, who was raised by the woman who was once a queen in her own right. I was not raised to simply accept situations like this. How can I not find it difficult?"

With the yanking of the horse, the bonds are now pulled very tight, and the wrists of both women are raw and bleeding. Eventually, after several hours of running along side the horse, night begins to fall. The Clansman stops, and finds a grove to rest for the night. He stakes the horse down, and leaves the women tied to the animal, and begins to start a fire. He checks the women every few minutes.
The young children wait on the edge of the darkness, watching the man. When Silvana gets too close to her mother, the man throws a rock, and hits her just below the eye, sending her screaming and crying off into the darkness.

"No." Aalina shouted, enraged that even he would do that to a child.
"She is young!"

The clansman approaches Aalina and puts his finger in front of his mouth in a universal signal for "Quiet."

She shook her head.
"The girl is hurt." She said, making effort to speak slowly and clearly. "Let me see her, please."
