Joanna didn't let Silvana go yet.
"You're frightening her," she said. "Why should I let her go?"

Aalina was silent trying to think of the words to say without alarming Joanna.
"Sorry Princess. I overstepped my place." She said sullenly.

"I know you're trying to help," Joanna whispered. "But can you not find a way to get the truth out of Silvana without frightening her?"

"I am sorry." Aalina said. "You are right, this can wait.."

"Yes, we need to get to safety then we can ask questions. Silvana should be less agitated if we are somewhere warm and comfortable," Joanna said. "Did your tutors ever teach you about wilderness lore?"

"A little on herb lore, not something that I can say I excelled at. I never needed to know anything about the wilderness before."

Silvana was quiet in her mother's arms, and looked at Aalina balefully through her one good eye.

"Then we're lost, and we'll have to chosoe a direction at random," Jopanna sighed. "There might be other clansmen about though so we will have to keep our eyes peeled for them."
She looked frantically for Cassana and Eleyna. Where are they?

Aalina nodded, then noticed the absence of the two other girls.
She stood and wandered to the edge of the clearing where they had last been seen.

They were standing quietly by their mother, waiting to be told what to do.

"Watch the girls while I look to the horse and the body," Joanna said.
She walked forward to her mount and stroked the animal to calm it then searched the clansman's body for useful items.

The clansman has the aforementioned bow, a quiver of arrows, and the axe which Joanna is all to familiar with. Nothing else.
The horse is still sitting where it has been staked, although is clearly on edge from the blood and fighting.

Joanna decided to take the axe, bow and quivers. She untied the horse.
"We'll have to start walking," Joanna said. "Aalina, can you put Silvana and Cassie up in the saddle. I'll lead the horse."
She turned to her firstborn.
"Eleyna, sweetling, can you walk for a bit? I don't want to tire the horse out with too many riders."

Joanna helped Aalina lift the two younger girls up and they made their way through the countryside.
