"I would suggest perhaps a member of House Targaryen, at least for the time being. In a situation such as this, you have needs for a man you can trust fully to run the security and order of the city. Prince Maekar seems lawful enough, and pursued the villain of the ball most doggedly. He is your blood, and though young, he seems exuberant."

Daemon nodded, "That is who I was thinking of as well. It is good to see we are on the same page."

"That is a good omen, then." Valrus said, then switching gears, "There might be quite a bit of chaos for the next little while, Daemon. We must make every effort to provide a swift end to anything amiss. As you know, Talyn was considered quite a vise. We will have our work cut out for us."

Daemon nodded, "I agree. I am sure we will rise to the challenge though." He offered Valrus a smile, "Speak freely if you have any more advice."

"I have nothing urgent to advise at the moment." He said, smiling. "Though I do anticipate my daughters will be happy to see their older sister again. Netta has grown so restless in the North. And a father might feel more comfortable if his daughter was within his reach to pluck out of the arms of any bold knights."
He laughed. "Though, Brella might be happier to keep her sister away. She has grown accustomed to the stares she gets."

Daemon nodded, "I can not wait to met your eldest daughter if she is such a beauty." He smiled, and sipped from a wine glass.

"Thank the Gods most of my children take after their mother. She was a beauty beyond measure, and they seem to reflect that. The Manderly's tend towards a fuller frame, and the women get the worst of it. My sister Hilda was often confused for an aurochs in her more formidable years. Lately she's been mistaken for a dragon. May the Seven bless her kind heart. Just a fortnight ago, she wrote me saying that she had to have her husband double her guard, because some of the younger smallfolk had begun following her around, attempting to slay her."
"Though if they took after me more, those girls would be less of a stress for me."

//////////
Some time later, Joanna arrived at the king's solar in tow with Benjen Blackfyre, the newest member of her personal household. Lucas had been commanded to stay with her daughters and their servants, to protect the girls in the event that Lord Talyn's killer was hiding somewhere in the Red Keep and meant to strike again. She had explained to her daughters that their Great-Uncle was dead and that they must all dress in mourning black. Joanna had chosen black silk for herself. The dress was very plain - she only ever wore it when someone had died - but the silk gave it an attractive sheen that Joanna liked. She informed the servant that she had arrived and waited to be let in.

Daemon chuckled and then said, "She should be proud to be called a dragon, and if these smallfolk try and slay a Dragon... well something drastic should be done to fix that problem."

Valrus laughed, and slapped the King on the back. "I don't imagine it's anything to worry over, she's almost as hale as a real dragon. Growing up, I was always able to best Ryles in a fight, but she could collar me and slam me to the ground easily, or keep me pinned in a head lock until my father arrived." He smiled at the memory.
"I believe I hear someone without, so I will not take any more of your time, Daemon. Please call on me if you need anything."

Benjen followed Joanna with a deadly grace, and bowed deeply to the King.

He shook the other man's hand, and walked him to the door. "For now I think you should work out of your own house. I do not want anyone thinking that we pushed Talyn's people out too fast. They deserve to take their time."

"Of course." He said, nodding and playing with his moustache. "I will not rock the boat on this endeavor."

"Daemon, I am sorry I did not come to commiserate with you last night," Joanna said. "I was shocked and my first thought was to make sure the children were safe. This is Benjen Blackfyre. He's kin of ours. His father was Maekar Blackfyre, Mother's cousin on her father's sdie. He brings a message. It is most troublesome, especially now. Benjen, this is His Grace the King."

Daemon raised an eyebrow, "A message?"
Benjen bowed, "My mother was a Reed, and I was raised in the neck. Before I left a witch told me to carry forth this message to the House of Dragons. 'Seek the Golden dragoness, for the fire burn its own, as the three heads rise strong, the clock will crush the green, the black sun will rise in the north, beware the future for evil is not always cold'"
