"I wish I can be like her or at least honour her memory in some way. Do you get that feeling to, that you must live up to honour your mother in some way? I don't think I'll ever be entrusted with an important task in my life, besides having a child."

"Well, that's important too, and I know many women think it's the most important thing ever," Joanna said. "You'll make a great mother when the time comes, I know it. And no, I don't feel I must live up to my mother's expectations. We are very different, she and I. I can fight but I have never had to. Mother was a warrior first, a queen second and a mother third. Our situations are very different. I learned to fight to defend myself, no other reason. I am much more interested in court intrigue than Mother ever was."

Arya nodded along to Jo's advice and words. "Yes that is true, we are all somewhat different from our parents, I can't even recognise my brother Beric in my father for one. As long as we find happiness our parents will be happy for us and that is what matters maybe. I will not worry about it too much, but it's hard growing up without a mother. I am glad I have such nice sisters though." She gave a big smile to Jo.

"Yes, that does help," Joanna agreed. "It's always nice to know that other women and girls are going through the same things you are going through or have already experienced. We can help one another in a way that men don't help each other, I think. How is your father? I have not spoken to him in a little while. I'll bet he's proud of you for becoming one of the queen's ladies."

"I agree, I think we should help one another since we are tied by blood and family. My father does well, and seems to be in good spirits. He knows that I am concerned with finding a man. He recommended Ser Tomas, but now that is not quite viable." She smiled sadly.

"No, of course not. It's a pity, because Tomas would have done nicely for you. We should definitely investigate Prince Trystane of Dorne. I'm not sure who else you might like."

"It would be interesting to meet him at least. I seem to have some bad luck with men lately. I didn't tell you everything about what happened between me and Ser Aiden. I told him I'd like to see him, but he sulked off angrily, can you believe that? Even after I said that even though he was of low status, and that I would be willing to have a relationship, he refuses me angrilly."

Joanna sighed.
"Oh, Arya. You really should have given up on that man. He's not worthy of you, and besides. no man likes to be reminded of his low rank even when he knows it to be a fact."

"Yes, perhaps he should have a bastard woman, so that they can wallow in misery." She frowned, "I will not speak with him unless he comes to me and offers an apology. I offered a piece of my heart and he shrugged it off. I am quickly learning how these men have such horribleness in them."

"So you are. That's good although hurtful for you now. You will learn all these things and then you will be better placed to find the man who really deserves your hand in marriage. This Ser Aiden is a great champion but not worthy of a Dayne, that much is obvious. Put him aside, cousin, and find another then make him jealous. That will serve him right."
Joanna winked.

Arya nodded, "I am glad I have you around for advice, I am learning quickly from you." She smiled and laughed. "And you make me feel better quickly. You will be a presence to be reckoned with at court Joanna. We should find out where the court will travel to next."

"Yes, it brings a freshness and new people to the court, but there is trouble in setting up ways of finding rumours and gossip. I had thought of a way, but I don't know if it's silly."

"Why silly? Tell me," Joanna demanded.

"Well, I thought that maybe there should be a mistress of ceremonies for when the court travels, and they'd have some small job of overseeing planning for events and dinners and sometimes parties, and all the servants of a castle would be at her disposal."
